I can usually see the pics people call too dark, Wade, but I gotta agree with them here. From what I CAN see, the composition is coming along great! Lighten up. :^)
This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

If you draw in some interesting lighting, maybe some of the visible volumetric stuff, it would help a lot. Also, I think the blue-gray triangle in the foreground is a spiderweb, but try actually modelling one with individual strands rather than setting a texture to a shape. I've seen the progress, it's coming along quite well. Better than my Outpost pic, anyway ...
Way too dark!

I do like the fire on the torchlights. One thing you might consider (yup I'm agreeing with everyone else lol) is to make the radials much, much brighter, then fiddling with the falloff. That way, you still have the feel of a dark image, but you can make out more details. The spider model looks great. You know what would be cool? If you could figure out a way to have compound eyes on it. I think it might look a little more monstrous and a little less "cute" (it's hardly cute as it is lol). One more thing. How about an adventurer poking his head out through the door? He could be carrying a torch, which would also help to brighten the scene. Also you could put a skeleton arm in another shackle on the wall, with the rest of it lying nearby on the ground, as if it either gnawed off its own arm and died from the shock, or decayed and rotted and still fell. Just some ideas for you. =)
I agree with LSD. I've got a very bright LCD monitor, and unless my eyes are dimming (checks around the room). Nope, eyes functioning properly. Your image Swade, is way too dark (switching to infrared).

Lol... you guys crack me up.... (no offense intended) You just give off some good humor when you reply. I like it. I appreciate all the feedback for sure. 8)
LSD... We might have a bit of difference in our monitors(probably time for me to re-calibrate mine) There is a huge difference between the two images contrast for sure.
(Elitism...hmmmmm..... never even crossed my mind.) 8) I posted this for your comments... good or bad. ( I am not one of those pansy's that can't take some good honest criticism.) Lol _ I use you guys's observations and crits of my work to learn as well as observing your works. I thank you all for being honest in your observations.
I tried to keep it a bit darker as dungeons in my mind are not overly bright. But maybe I kept it a little too dark. lol Apparently so. 8)
I do appreciate your feedback I will post what I hope will be my final WIP in a bit. I took all your comments and suggestions into account and implemented. 8)

Again, I am on a different computer, a pentium 3 450 at the court house in seattle. you cannot even see the image in number 1, at all, swade... and i mean nothing. the color-corrected image i adjusted shows up fine. you will also note that this message is nearly devoid of capital letters - the shift keys don't work on this computer! amazing what my tax dollars are doing, these days.... (grins) just giving you the heads up on things. don't want people to think you're messing with their heads with black "renders".
I see a black screen with three really dim torches on 24 inch sony.
