I have reworked this image.... I have implemented a lot of suggestions in this images as well. Thank you to all you that offered your crits/suggestions. I hope that this works better. The lighting is all that I am concerned about now I think. If you see something that just don't seem right to you... say so. Otherwise I am going to do a final Premium render and post this baby. Hi Swade, This is what I saw from your posted pic. On my monitor, it seems too dark, and there appear to be missing bits (circled). In particular: the middle torch seems to be cut off vertically at the edge of the wall, and there's a very black shadow across the skeleton.. Of course, it might just be my monitor (tho' it's not too shabby..) Cheers, Diolma (Oh, and apologies for scrawling over your image..)

This looks great. Decent lighting, good perspective. The menacing spider is surely a threat now! It's like a scene straight out of the Diablo game, there are spiders & rooms just like that. Nice work.

MUCH MUCH better! This looks awesome now. I love the spider's eyes, actually I had something different in mind, but yours is much better than my idea. diolma-- I think your monitor is set darker than mine, because everything you circled shows up fine to me. There is a pillar in the middle of the room (the reason why the torch is cut off), and the shadow across the skeleton is actually a piece of the spider's leg. Still, swade, you may want to consider brightening it still further for people who do have darker monitors. Just a thought. Great pic! =)

much better just remove the midletorch and rotate the spider a little so it isnt obstructing the skeleton too much. the lighting is spot on now in terms of brightness .

Diolma, I think that dark shadow across the skeleton is actually one of the spider's pincers. But the torch you circled is also cut off for me and looks very odd.

Well, Swade-- Maybe you should do something about that torch. Apparently right now I'm about the only one who noticed what it really its. lol! =)

Maybe you should remove one of the skeletons arms, so it would look like the one left from the spider is the missing one. More dramatic I think... Thomas

Aye, it's a great scene setup, Swade! The remaining issues, as I see it, are : Still too dark. Torches are FIRE, and are much brighter than this. I hate to say it, but you need a new monitor, man. I can make out all the details now, but methinks that it probably DOES look bright enough on your screen. But it's just not, my friend. Composition issues : The pillar should either be smaller, so that the middle torch is fully visible, or the middle torch needs to be moved. What's happening here is that the pillar doesn't look like a pillar at all, but a side-passage in the back corner. Perhaps model a pillar, using booleans, and use a cylindrical shape instead of a cube shape, to help define it's pillar-ness better, and to give your eyes some curves to follow... ALL the torches should be using "Squared" falloff for their lighting, and be turned up much higher. The spider's legs' texture is way off the color scheme, and clashes with all the other materials. I would use the same shade of green-brown that is on the body, on this spider's leg materials. Matching those two will increase the realism tremendously. You cannot even SEE the hand on the left, in your image. The only reason I know it's there is because of : Another Auto-contrast of this image, showing how bright it should be. The reason I'm doing this is NOT to be insulting, elitist, or anything else. But this is an arbitrary test using the finest software around, and also using RGB mathematics. Your picture SHOULD be dark and scary, but the contrast between light and dark is a serious compositional issue for this image. The light areas should compliment and direct your eyes to the dark areas. At your level of brightness, we're talking about missing out on all the nice details and textures, and the hand, and basically it just looks like you made it on a dying monitor... I'd like to see this image shining in all of it's capacity, thus my ranting about the lighting!

Hmmm... I already posted it in my gallery... will see what people say about it. If there are several people that have trouble seeing it... I will up the lighting and render it again. Thanks for all the input peeps. I appreciate it. 8) Wade

Aye, I'm not saying it's lit properly. Only that the image in #1 is lit improperly. It's not a matter of opinion, just a matter of composition. Just trying to help...

but I would not go quite so bright as frame ten.

Aye, it's evening time here, and I looked at them all again. The one in number 10 hurts my eyes! So, nevermind, Wade. Do what you like! It's your world, and your art... Cool Swade I like that spider better then the one I had! Needs to be a darker image imho. Nice and creepy though.
