Hi,

I working on my latest bird collection and have an error that stumps me. I can't get the tail of my bird to go completely Transparent. I've check a dozen times to make sure I'm using pure black--- I'm turned on and off the bump maps, highlights, fall-off, you name it... any suggestions?

What are your material settings? They should be: Transparency 1.0000 Transparency_Edge 1.0000 Transparency_Falloff 0.0000 All other setting are irrelevant. Also check your transmap itself to make sure that the parts that are supposed to be tranparent are 100% black, ie red = 0, green = 0, blue = 0 Finally, is this the preview mode you are showing us, or is this the actual render? In preview mode you will see a faint image of the transparent item, but it won't be there when you render it.

"All other setting are irrelevant." Actually, not quite.. Ensure that any specular, ambient and translucence values are also zero - these can sometimes add effects like that. If you post a screen capture of your mat room sttings, I'm sure someone will know exactly what is the problem. (Or more likely, you'll notice it before that. But post it anyway, together with the solution, to help others..) :-)) Cheers, Diolma

The black has been tested numerous times 0, 0, 0 and white at 255, 255, 255. It was rendered in Poser 6, though the same result occurs in Poser 4 Pro

The only thing I can figure is that the tail being two-sided geometry that there's some weird bleed through going on...

Try making the background on your transparency map node ---> BLACK.

Nope, that work didn't either... but thanks for trying.. I also used Poser Pro's much simplier Material Editor and unfortunately got the same problem... it's looking like my solution will be to create a conforming tail prop-- that might be better anyways, I could add morphs to give gravity to those two Q-Tip shaped feathers

Stewer is always telling people to check "Normals forward", but I doubt this would help.

And just to make sure again, the picture you are showing us is what it looks like after you have rendered it and you are not showing us what it looks like in preview mode.

Try setting transperncy_edges to 0, that helps me many times.

Ken _Gilliland ( ) posted Sat, 11 June 2005 at 9:51 PM

Okay,... it been a long day and I'll been staring at the computer screen for a bit too long... I know because one of my betatesters "nickedshield" just posted an image with the map working properly... The color was near Black "0 0 2"... I'm would have mine working properly too if had been in my :runtime:textures directory :O Painter pull my master file (.RIF) from the correct directory but SAVE AS was directed to my beta Runtime outside of Poser... hence, I corrected the problem but not the one Poser was seeing... Ugh! thank-you anyways and I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time...

I had a rendering problem, fixed by Fazzel's suggestion of setting transparency falloff = 0. Very useful post, thanks!
