No spoilers from me but I thought it was awesome. This has been the absolute best Dr Who series ever. At long damn last they gave it to people who give a flying fuck about a quality show. Great script, acting, effects and direction. I'll be watching it again later with my Good Lady when she returns home. It's quite something that she couldn't stand the whole Dr Who thing before this series and now she loves it. I loved the whole series; finally, freaking finally, the show lives up to what I wanted when I was 4 years old. If you haven't seen it, see it as soon as possible. If you have even the slightest interest in Skiffy, this is for you.

Ok, those of us in the Colonies...how do we get the new Dr.? I've got BBC America on my satelite TV package...any hopes for it showing up there quickly?

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 3:26 PM

Let's see, we have a series where there are power-crazed tycoons, manipulation of news media, wars arranged to gain access to fuel supplies, and two men kissing. Does anyone really expect it to get shown on TV in the USA? Well, mass-murder of unarmed civilians, and indiscriminate bombing of cities, may be OK.

"Let's see, we have a series where there are power-crazed tycoons, manipulation of news media, wars arranged to gain access to fuel supplies, and two men kissing." You know, I think the little subtext they put in there about the all-action hero being bi is pretty damn cool. Nice to see the Doc being a cynical, impatient, sarcastic Northerner, too. At last, someone I can identify with. :D Dunno if the Mercans will get to see it in its original form but I hope so.

heh. 90% of US DW fans are already watching it ;) since the SF channel refused to buy it.. BBC America has no plans.. DVD orders from the UK and Internet Downloads and Smuggled VHS copies are the order of the day... me? I'll just wait for CBC to air it.. we're only 2 shows behind the BBC...

"power-crazed tycoons, manipulation of news media, wars arranged to gain access to fuel supplies, and two men kissing." Apart from the two men kissing you could be describing america - unless one didn't inhale... :) As for the series - it's been excellent. Mostly down to such strong writing by Russell T. Davis's. The BBC have been trying for years to re-claim early evening saturday night TV and they've achived it with a 40 year series. I just hope they don't bring back the generation game under the banner of classic TV!

I missed the last two episodes and don`t have bbc3. :(

originalkitten ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 5:44 PM

wow that was good!!!!! I missed a few episodes, caught it when I remembered.......I liked Christopher Eccleston as the doc...I like him as an actor anyway so seeing him this was great. His timing for his humour is great. I just hope this new guy is just as good. Xantor....I'm sure bbc will be repeating it b4 the xmas special, you know the bbc lol.

It looks like the next Dr Woo will be David Tennant. He was very good in Casanova with Peter the Tool (also on BBC). If it is going to be him... I think there will be even more humour thrown in :-)

I think Chris Eccleston did this really well, its a shame he left. I was plesently surprised with this series as a whole. I hope David Tennant can live up to the challenge. I missed casanova so havent really seen him in anything yet.

David Tennant was great in "Blackpool" too, so I have high hopes of his characterisation of The Doctor in the new series.

Someone said that this was the best Doctor Who series ever. I heartily disagree. Whereas previously stories were spread out over 4, 5 or 6 episodes they're now crammed into 1 or 2. It leaves things feeling unfinished and ill-thought out. And some of the science bits are just wierd - like flying creatures as a result of a paradox???

KarenJ ( ) posted Sun, 19 June 2005 at 5:43 AM

What's been really great for me is watching with my stepson, who is about to turn 10 years old. Before this series, he had never heard of Dr Who, the Daleks, the Tardis, none of it. There was this huge cultural gulf of knowledge. 13 episodes later, he's become the self-proclaimed biggest fan in Sheffield and has declared his birthday wishlist a "Dr Who only zone". He's now counting the days to the Xmas special. Zulu, I do agree that some of the story arcs should have been longer. There hasn't been anything longer than 2 episodes in this series. (Although you could say that the Bad Wolf thing tied the whole series into one arc.) But then perhaps that was a necessary evil in order to get a new generation of viewers on board - today's world, sadly, has a far shorter attention span, and perhaps a series of short, snappy episodes has helped to get the programme/characters to a point where they now have enough recognition amongst the new viewers to support longer story arcs. I hope so, anyway.

SamTherapy: "If you have even the slightest interest in Skiffy, this is for you..." I didn't see no Skiffy in it :-( And... what would an Aussie Bush Kangaroo be doing in it anyway..?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sun, 19 June 2005 at 8:26 AM

The bush kangaroo was Skippy - I think ST is thinking of Lonnie Donnegan, must have had a guest spot in the last episode (haven't watched it yet).

Ziggie the tardis is shaped like a telephone box because it has a shape changing device to blend in with it`s surroundings and the device stopped working when the tardis was shaped as a telephone box (police box). Rhaseltine, lonnie donnegan music is skiffle not skiffy.
