I just bought him! Figured there'd already be a post by now about it.

Quality, innovation and style. Excellent value. I'm sure we are going to see a lot of this figure and others in the Maximus line.

works with PhilC's wardrobewizard application too! Nobody can complain that ApolloMax doesn't have enough clothing. just wish I could get a copy of PhilC's program. Great reviews...if only I could find a job now to afford things again...grrrr.

Approx. a year ago when Max was originally announced, Anton indicated that a female mesh would follow. I can't imagine that he wouldn't follow up on this, given the considerable excitement around Max, and the fact that our community tends to favor the female. :-) I don't remember her name ... was it "Diana?" Something beautiful and classical like that. PhilC, so good of you to include A-Max compatibility in WardrobeWizard. Thank you! Dean

He sure looks and sounds good.

But.... I've paid $70 or so for Poser 6 and that included 4 new figures, body maps, a lot of clothes for them and more stuff. Now I'm expected to pay $50 for one figure only, who doesn't even has some decent clothes at the moment. I don't think so.

I'm not to eager to invest in a new figure anyway. Just bought quite some stuff for James & Jessi, so I'll stick with those for a long time...... But he sure looks good and very versatile, I can see many people buying him and he sure adds a whole new perspective to Poser.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I'm waiting to hear the reviews. I'm curious about him, but I don't want to spend $50 just to find out what he's like. Why is he superior to M3 or David? (And more importantly...how much support will he get?)

>> Why is he superior to M3 or David? You can scale (not morph!) him, through scaling dials, into various shapes - anything from a dwarf to a hulk, a kid to an adult. The method used for this capability is extremely innovative and it works on his clothing as well. The joint bending far surpasses anything you'll see in M3 or David. The bends are realistic, especially in the knees and shoulders. No spaghetti arms. Without JCM's.

I have been looking at Apollo Maximus and I am interested in getting him, but in the sample pictures his body looks a little "ballooned up" when he is bulked up. What I mean by that is that his muscles appear to be lacking definition. Could someone post a picture with both the pBodyMuscles1 and the pBodyDefine dials turned up, or whatever combination of dials necessary to make him large and cut? Thanks! Jay

Thanks, I was wondering what the heck ADS was. (Aside from "Advanced Drainage Systems," inventer of polyethylene pipes. ;-)

I'm not sure I would ever use that feature, though. My experience with scaling Poser figures hasn't been very positive. It's just too hard to morph and pose and dress figures that have been scaled a lot. For example, the Aeon figures. They look okay in the default mode, but add, say, an ethnic head morph, and they're scary-looking. And they're hard to dress.

I'm not keen on his default look, either. As Jay said, he looks kind of balloony. I suppose there are men who look like that, but I prefer more definition.

However, I would be interested in a figure that poses better than David. Are there examples of extreme poses posted anywhere? How is he rigged?

I believe there are some renders over at RDNA of some pretty extreme poses. also it might be best to point folks over to RDNA for questions as well (as I'm sure many of them will be duplicated). They have set up an Apollo Maximus forum over there, where Anton is fielding questions left and right. 8-)

The ADS Scaling poses work great. You apply them to Apollo, then apply them to the clothing. Works fine :) Let me see if I can run something up for you really quick...hang on :)

The human form and what is attractive or considered correct is as vast as the people you ask. We are lucky we have so much to choose from to suit our personal tastes. I have left shape, form and style up to the user . He is really what you dial him to be rather than what other people dial him to be. There are no specific morphs like Barbarian etc. He is really entirely composed of shaping morphs. The combinations are the key, not any one more by itself. Hope that helps.

Um ... yeah. Much. You bet. (blush) It's also quite poseable. LOL

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 17 June 2005 at 6:39 PM

oh yeah it can. and someone will eventually ask, and yes he is anatomiclly correct on the other side too least the geometry is there.

LadyElf ( ) posted Fri, 17 June 2005 at 6:40 PM

Ahhhh.....I'm not an animator so I couldn't say how that would effect them in this case, I'm sure there is one around that might know the answer to that. You didn't say you were asking about animations, you just said that it never had worked for you well :)

I'm off work sick right now and have no return to work date yet, so my funds are extremely limited; I doubt I'll be able to get him given the price. I had suspected he would be pricey, but I also hoped that they would take into account their customers over the border too and price it accordingly. After currency exchange it would be $61.70 CAD just for the figure ($125.76 with textures) for me based on today's rate. After the sale, based on today's rate, $123.44 CAD ($210.93 with textures). As much as I love that figure and had hoped to be able to buy him, I can't warrant spending that kind of money on one single item.

if it's any help apollomax comes with a very good texture, hair, beard, and a skinsuit. all the other textures are addons and not a requirement. all the morphs are included so just the one product purchase out of the box is a good value. I know how it goes with money though, some of the addon stuff I would love as well as PhilC's Wardrobe Wizard clothing converter however I just moved, grandfather died, and have no job. The wonderful thing about poser items is they stick around in the stores for a while. I'm sure you'll land on your feet.

I ran over to RDNA this morning to take a look. Price initially seemed a bit high for me, but I kept reading and it seems you do get quite a bit for what you're paying. More or less a complete figure with all of the "basics" already covered. So in that respect, Apollo does seem to be a pretty good value.

odeathoflife ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 12:18 AM

I hear yea Acadia, a fellow canadian who cannot justify the exchange for purchase, maybe he will release a 'lite' version at a reduced cost.

Gabriel, do you live in Canada where the price is almost $62.00 for the figure, or in the US where it's actually $49.95?

Acadia, I live in the US. Granted it's not the continental US, so I'm always getting the shaft when it comes to nationally advertised special deals (the kind you see on TV), or shipping for whatever products I might order through the mail...still the US so yeah I don't get any word currency conversion things. I stand by my statment though. I'm not saying Apollo is cheap (not even at the $50 price we pay in the US), just that it's a good value in terms of price paid, for stuff recieved. I was thinking in relative terms, according to what a comparable DAZ figure bundle would have cost when it was new.

GabrielK ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 1:48 PM

And for the record, yes I think Apollo would still be a good value even if I had to pay $60.

DCArt ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 3:01 PM

The price and value is all in a perspective of how you look at it. All of this talk about Max (or any other figure for that matter) being expensive is making me think back through the years and realizing how "spoiled" we have all become in regards to third party content. If I remember correctly, the original Victoria 1 was something in the $70.00 range ... WITHOUT character morphs, or textures, or additional clothing. On top of that you had to get a texture (usually around $20-30). Morphs weren't added until Victoria 2, so you didn't have morphs for V1. On top of that, you'd have to get a catsuit (another $20 to 30), and hair (anywhere from $10 to $30 in those days). Add that up, and five years ago we were paying between $120 and $160 for less than what is included with Apollo Maximus for the current sale price of $50. If you consider the amount of time that it would take you to create all of that stuff yourself (Anton probably worked on it in excess of a year and a half), $50 is a bargain ... for ANYTHING we get for Poser no matter who creates it.

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 8:05 PM

You tend to re-evaluate how you look at things when you go on a fixed income for a length of time (a year now). When I was working, if I had to have something and it didn't fall within my usual budget, all I did was pick up an extra 1/2 or full shift. That's not possible on a fixed income.

GabrielK ( ) posted Sat, 18 June 2005 at 8:22 PM

Yeah Acadia, that's definitely true and I never meant to imply otherwise. Many of the things I buy now I wouldn't have considered buying just a year ago, when I was still in slogging my way through school. The way I look at it though, I can regard something as being both expensive (and in many cases too expensive for me) and a good value/bargain at the same time. FWIW though I hope your financial situation improves soon. I've been there myself and I know it ain't fun.
