Hi all, I am wondering if there is a quick way to give a character a suntan, just using the P5/P6 Materials Room ? Thanks in advance. regards, Andrew

the no-brainer method would be to pick a tanned color in the diffuse channel. (it's usually white)

I had that idea, but I'm thinking its not such a no-brainer, you have to get the right hue so that the tan looks natural and not one of those tans that comes out of a bottle.

it does take some tinkering. if you're REALLY into shader nodes, you might do a search on face_off. He's done a lot with skin.

Y'know, you'd think one of our resident geniuseseses would do a material set of shaders for tans....I remember seing somewhere an overlay for bikini marks but I can't remember where they were...I guess they were a transmap. If one were to combine the shader nodes with the transmap, it'd all be good! (Off to go dig through the freebies...)

Or you could use a blender node and use it like you would to apply a tattoo.

Ok, I didn't follow the tattoo analogy...could you spell it out for those of us who are blender-challenged, please?

Actually I prefer the color math node but the blender node can be used too. Here is the mat room setting.

And here is the finished result. This save space on the hard drive in that you don't have to create a separate total body skin texture in photoshop just to add a tattoo.

the pain about tattoo's though is trying to put them on the back. d**n that seam.

Ah, so, theoretically, you could put a different color in the image map 3 box and have it be the tan tone? Hmmm....I'll have to tinker with that over the next few days. And I agree about tattoos being a pain, literally and figuratively (I've got a few myself). I can never get the ones on the arms or legs to wrap properly. Thanks bunches!!
