Ok i had that question in my head since a while now. I wonder what are the elements which make someone look at an image in the gallery. I know it's hard to visit everything. That the "replacement rate" is kindda quick, and then that the first hours (or most likely the first minutes) are capital to attract potential viewer's attention. So, when you visit the Galleries, what does make you look at an image ? Thumbnail first. Do you prefer originality ? Mystery ? Is it better to put a part of the image at its current scale, or a reduced view of the main scene ? The name, too : does it matter to you ? Are you curious about an image with an attractive or mysterious name ? The rating : are you looking more at an image which already had ratings ? Which already has been viewed often ? The author : is the fact that the author is well known, a good merchant, a regular poster in the forums, or is just having lots of "friends" around, of any importance ? Do you take into account the fact that he/she visits and/or leaves comments to your own images ? Ok i know it's a lot of questions, but as many artist wannabees, i'd like my images being seen by the greatest number of people, i'd also like to have comments, or just some "hellos" at times. So maybe having some clues about what makes the "potential audience" look at pictures would help some of us. Thanks for the inputs Merlin

I don't have time to take a closer look at everything. So as I'm browsing quickly through the thumbs I take a closer look if the quality of the thumbnail looks good. Secondly, name ... I do notice that my eyes are naturally drawn to art by certain artists, and if the thumbnail catches my eye and the name is one I'm familiar with I always take a closer look. The popularity contest doesn't affect my decision to look at something. Quality catches my eye more than how "popular" the piece is. There are a LOT of excellent pieces here that are barely commented on.

Mystery. (no a general thumbnail) Creative cropping, preferably combined with a good title. Not a title like (light test, skin test, or symbols "*$#~") A good title suggests depth in your images.

To lift a quote from Frank Zappa (Definately NOT a fan) but "Big Congo Schmeebes!" LOL!! Just kidding... sorta... I find it's the characters eyes (if visible)in a thumb that compel me to click to view... I think when someone takes the time to alleviate the standard vacuous, empty-headed stare that most poser models always have it's a worthwhile piece of artwork. And to be completely honest the above mentioned frontal appendages sometimes are somewhat compelling too... sorry... I suppose I'm a lewd pig at times!! LOL!!! At least I'm honest about it! Later! G

Thumbnails first and foremost. No Thumbnail=No Views!

ah, the Perrenial favorite..;) Here's what seems to work

1. the Thumb - the first thing you see. What seems to help is cropping. Find the most interesting area of the pic, and crop that out. But don't include all of it, but lead the viewer to wonder what the rest of it looks like. My talent certainly hasn't improved any, but by cropping, my hit counts have been climbing.
2. Bright colors- well-lit scense, or areas of brightness in a pic, seem to get more interest than murky, mysterious-looking pics (a shame). Primary colors, high contrast (without being too garish)
3. Girls, girls, girls (well sometimes boys as well..;) The less well-clad, the better. Though not quite nkd, or you have to flag the 'n*dity' thread, and you lose some there.
4. Cryptic (or double entendre`) title. Sometimes just punctuation marks ~_____~, etc seem to help
5. Artistic quality (another shame that it comes in at number 5..;) A well-planned and executed portrait, etc., with lots of quality and detail helps an awful lot.
6. Postwork, or the Dark Side- sometimes you can smudge, crop (what, again?), mask, or multilayer something into a good pic. It's like makeup, tho..enough to make a woman look better, without quite knowing just why, is enough..;)
   Note- I've never had a pic go over 350 hits, so don't take this as Gospel..;)

The quality of the thumbnail. If it looks crude in the thumbnail, it is going to look crude full size. One important thing for me is a nicely shaped breast if it is of a woman. Breast seem to be the toughest thing to get to look realistic in Poser. If the breasts look like they could be on a real woman, chances are the rest of the character will also be realistic looking, or at least look good. Turns off are breasts as big as Idaho, or breast that stick up in the air when the character is on her back. Please, take gravity into account people.

1. The title assigned to the image; 2. Beautiful Eyes 3. Esthetically pleasing colours (if there is a thumbnail) 4. Soft Focus or misty appearance (if there is a thumbnail) What I don't look at?: 1. Titles that don't peak my interest; 2. Thumbnails of nudity/boobs/genitals 3. Hints of violence I consider the human body a work of art, but I get tired of seeing people using that theme in order to generate gallery views, or "shock". And I'm sick of seeing size zero twiggy female figures with their bones prominently poking out of their skin, along with size 50 GGGG boobs that defy the laws of gravity.

1] Definitely a good thumbnail. 2] Lighting, composition and quality. 3] Subject matter. As for cropping or resizing the full image it depends on the image itself. I normally crop a section of my image but also do it the other way for others. Don't mind postwork, especially when it is very good, but I do like an image created entirely in Poser with minimal postwork. That's just a personal preference because I try to work that way as much as possible. And I agree with Acadia's 2 & 3 of what I don't look at as well as images without thumbs or poorly done. My Dragon Mistress image has the most views at 1133 but my Getting Down to Business image has the most comments at 53 and even made it into the Hot 20. I have to say it is one of my favorites, took me days before I was finally satisfied with it. Working with the Millenium Dragon and lighting can be difficult so it's a challenge for me to get it right.

Hi,well first it is the thumbnail. I open full image if the thumbnail is very good, or interesst but also funny.Also Im looking along the genere in whom I post most images from myself.I also pick up images with very less views becourse I think "we all have been beginners or new in RR and have been happy for each view." Artists from whom I want to see more images I take to my favorite list to get a notice by mail. Althought Im a Poser-Worker Im looking to photographers or fractal and other artists also. Only Im not so mad on violance images.

Primal instincts! That is... those things which appeal to the "amimal" part of your brain. You dont "THINK" about what your going to look at next you just click with GUT feelings! This seems to be a phomomina which explains why exagerated women get a disporpotional number of looks rather than renders which have good composition and originality. Morbid curiocity for the VIOLENT lovers. Mystery for the downright curious. I try to fight this and dont look at thumbs I just click next image in the galery and see what comes up.

File size makes a difference. I'm on a slow dailup. If an image say, 800x600 with a file size over 250kb, which is more than enough, I won't bother. Could be one of the main reasons I don't look at the populars top20. Files are ridiculously big. Interesting thumbs, which could be lighting, content. Titles I don't worry about. Seems silly to me not to look because someone had a hard time with the Nameing.

I look for a pleasing thumbnail. NO boobs. If there is no thumbnail, I look at the title. I've seen some good images with no thumbnail but well thought out titles.

The shadows. I ignore all thumbnails of eyeballs, lips, and boobs.

I look for thumbnails that make me think the image will be nicely done and not just a boring old naked Vicki or something else I've seen umpteen million times already. If the thumbnail looks like it's same-old-same-old, I pass. Also, if the thumbnail indicates that the image is poorly done (i.e., rendered with default lights or default crappy camera focal lengths, or poorly painted, etc.), I don't bother. If the thumbnail is boobs, a female arse, female lips, or an eye, I skip it entirely. I also am usually not impressed by thumbnails that are just sized-down whole versions of the full image. If there's NO thumbnail, I don't bother at all. If you can't be bothered to make a decent thumbnail to give me an idea what you've done, I can't be bothered to click just to find out. ;-) bonni

First, the genre; I use to filter 'cos I don't care about any anime/manga/fractal. I use to set Poser/Fantasy, Poser/History, Poser/Sci-Fi. Second, no gorgeous topless-woman-with-sword-in-any-default-pose stuff nor pinups. Third, NO UNICORN nor faery. Fourth: Name. I have a couple of favorites names wich I remember, so I open every pic of them. Fifth: An impactin' thumbnail, sometimes the title... but thumbs are so small that you cannot consider lights, composition... only when you watch the entire work. My big problem is my 56k slow connection, otherwise I'd see much more images.

Well, lots of things to ponder... Especially this last reply about genre. Are lots of you taking it into account, filtering images that way ? When i make an image, i select the closest genre i may think is fitting, according to my mood of the moment. At another time, it could be another. Am i wrong thinking that poser/fantasy is one of the mainstream choices ?

The problem with filtering by genre means you limit your chance of some good works. Also looking at only the populars you limit yourself again. If you started this thread to find out how to get more veiws. Make a nice interesting thumb, a little T&A seems to work, say in the title "for(insert populars name)," and or use squiggly lines. Leave an excellent comment on every image you look at. Or just do what you like in your own form of art and not worry about veiws. The better you get at it the more quality veiws you will get in time.
