Subject: Why are there so few morphs for the P4 dork or M2P4 characters??

horndog40 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 4:41 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 9:05 AM

I like the P4 bone structure because its easier to pose but I'm frustrated at the lack of male characters, anyone got any links to any? Horndog PS:A BIG THANK YOU TO THOSE ON THIS BOARD WHO RESPONDED TO MY NEWBIE QUESTIONS. THIS IS A VERY NICE PLACE AND I CAN'T WAIT TO CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING HERE.

Here's a set of morphs for the P4 Casual Man (the same person also makes a set of textures for him).

thanks, I'm primarily interested in P4 body morphs, the face morphs look quite good.

For the same reason it's hard to find 8-track cassettes!

8-tracks are easy to find, if you know which landfills to search.

Dork (P4NudeMan) was so hard to morph into something more human-like that people forgot about him almost immediately ;) Seriously, have you ever been to PosetteForever ? Those nice guys & gals are trying their best to resurrect "ancient" P4Figures. Unfortunately, Poser community lacks of Dork body morphs. He's mostly rendered clothed - if ever, and putting clothing onto a morphed characters can be a pain in the back.

Vilian, With all the utilities such as "Tailor" and "Wardrobe Wizard" making clothing and morphs for it doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore, no?

jeffg3 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 5:27 PM

Where's the "internet landfill" so we can search it for old P4 stuff?

narcissus ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 5:27 PM

Also there is a great dork charcter for Dork at RuntimeDNA(free)! pitklad

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 5:38 PM

At least with 8-tracks, you might find a market for them on ebay.

But the Dork.....? I doubt that you'd get many bids on him.

Also don't forget that Wardrobe Wizard demo can convert from Don to Dork and Don has many clothes by default!

Also I've heard that WW can convert for morphed characters so this is solved too!

As for the face I'm working Domus this time that we are talking and also DoRuS is still under development!

Whos said P4 people are dead? :^)

It's a pity since we've got them by default not to use them!

On use V3 for close ups but for a long shot Posette can be as good (and don't tell me possete doesn't have inough cloths!)

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 5:43 PM

Actually, I've always thought that "Department Store Mannequin Man" would be a more descriptive term than "dork" for the default P4 male.

The Dork might have a brilliant career at Sears.

BastBlack ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 6:52 PM

The MorphWorld CD is where I got alot of Dork morphs. There are still a few places online with free dork morphs, but not too many anymore. Do a search in the free stuff. Also check out the MalePoser site, it has alot of dork stuff. The best of Dork characters are from Japan, imho. Ode is pretty cool for P4dork. Using WW to morph Dork is also a good idea (but his fingers won't convert). bB

Clothes before Wardrobe Wizard. ----------------------------------------- I can't find the dork stuff at RuntimeDNA... but I always have trouble with the search there... it always brings up gallery images. Any detail I could search on? Japanese Dork stuff? Where? I want that MorphWorld CD so much. I lost my whole MorphWorld archive back years ago... but $45 is gonna be a while. Now that I found out ockham's loader script will batch load morphs to a figure I want that disc all the more!!!

(The excellent hair is included, btw)

Personally I think whoever created the Dork did a pretty good job.
He bends better than default Posette and if you look closely at the mesh the modeller did some really effort to get a good definition of the muscles.

He may lack looks like M2 or M3, but IMO hes very "likable".
Would Dr Geep and NaySayGuy the same with Michael 2 or 3 ???

What he DID lack, though, were better default expression morphs, so that he could express a wider range of emotions.

Maybe his biggest disadvantage is that he is FREE, so he doesntt provide folks with the smug feeling that they now will make better art than their peers because they paid more for their equipment. LOL.

"Ian" by Handspan Studios is a very fine (and full) set of body morphs, as well as a texture, that create a great character using the M2P4 mesh. I was pretty shocked, in a good way, by the results when I bought this product way back when...

If you simply work with the dial settings, the P4 mesh will respond very nicely. These are both P4s, with only minimal touch up and an added background.

I haven't tried it, but you can convert M3 textures to dork. First UTC M3 textures to M2. Then load April's P4NM that's remapped to take M2 textures. Wa la! I forget where to get the remapped Dork. It's a MustHave. I don't hate Dork either because back in the days, everything was free, and I have tons of killer free stuff for Dork! In fact, I've been slowly Wardrobe Wizarding Dork stuff to M3! ;D Ode is such a cutie! =D Over at RDNA is where Dr Morphius was. It had alot of cool morphs. Also try to find the celebrity faces for Dork. There were some good ones. I made a master cr2 with all of Dork's morphs I could find, and it's only 20 megs. lol! And... Mech4D did AMAZING work on Dork with reshaping his face and making high res textures. I don't know if she ever released it. Search the forums, you'll see some killer pictures. Dodger made a V3 Posette (it's over at PoserPros), but I don't think anyone has tried to convert M3 to Dork. bB

The p4 man is still useful, unlike the daz figures it isnt a huge filesize, it isnt the wrong proportions and he doesn`t need these !"%$^ injection morphs. The film the omega man is set in the near future, it is about the last man alive where everyone else are dead or mutants. In one scene the main figure is driving his car and he gets out an 8 track cartridge and puts it in the car stereo to play it.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 6:23 AM

The main problem with the Dork is his lack of textures, really. I'd use him more if he didn't look so plastic-y. I've got a few textures for him but I really need more in order to make him look different, when you've got more than one person in a scene.

SeanMartin, Those are such nice images. Just great. Only for my taste I wish the fellow on the left in the color image had armpit hair. I have been meaning to try to make an armpit hair prop that would work on Dork and Posette. I am using Tom's Real Pubic hair but I would prefer something smaller in memory. I don't/can't have the texture converter :(

momodot ( ) posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 9:59 AM

Also, I find Dork very well boned too.

SeanMartin ( ) posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 10:10 AM

Gotta do my part, LD. :) I dont use him nearly as much as I used to, but I still find him far more versatile than folks think he's capable of. Momodot/Stahlratte: Many thanks. Insofar as textures, I built my own, using whatever textures I could find and then adapting or working from original photos. It's surprising how easy it is once you do it a couple of times, and it's given me a library of over 30 dork textures that are on par with anything for the milFolk.

Funny thing is, I think I underuse M2. I recently did a side by side line up of all the main male figures (not including Dork, Don, and James), and M2 was suprisingly good in comparison. He's alot better than I remember. I picked up Boris for him, and may UTC some high res M3 textures to him.

If you want to see the line up, here it is:

Figures included are (left to right):
M2, V3 Male, M3, Freak, David, Seth, Luke, Matt, bB's Sess, Poserman's A3M3, Hiro (real), Vittorio, and Anton's Apollo.

The changes to the head with domus are a great improvement.

narcissus ( ) posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 3:23 PM

Thanks xantor! I tried to smooth the head as much as I could without having texture distortions! I'm now working a bit Dorks UVS there are some points that need improvement I'll not change anything just add some materials and correct a part of the head uvs at the right side that creates big distortions on the textures,I guess everyone has noticed it... Generaly all textures will work except Lash maybee which in my opinion needs a seperate texture for better results... Or should I put it in the same map? there is quite lost space on Dorks UVS.... pitklad

Bastblack ,I just looked at your lineup and its amazing when you look at the front deltoid(shoulder) of M2 the and apollo compared to that pathetic M3 rig and you see why i dont use M3 for anything the Freak is not too bad in the shoulder due to his Mass. But M3 andV 3 ........horrible !!!!!plus they require that annoying Inject/rem system.

narcissus, Sure I'll add Domus 2.1, ...as soon as I figure out how to download him. *blush* I'm having trouble over at Posette Forever. I see the post, but don't see a link. I love what you've done with Dork's face and textures. It's like VickiBuster, but for Dork. ;) I've been planning to up date the lineup with more male figures and the cartoon figures as well. I think the policeline up is a handy guide for choosing what figure to use for which situation, and it's also interesting to compare base figures and get an idea of heights too. Other lineups I might do down the road include a posing comparison and morph variation comparision. And if I really squeeze time from a stone, various male texture comparisons. M3's JPs are a problem. If I recall correctly, DAZ played it safe by having a compromise for the JPS to allow for skinny and bulked up character morphs. M3 didn't bulk up that well, so they made the Freak. And then Freak was too Freaky so they solved the skinny-to-bulked-up problem with David. However, I like M3's face and build better, all his clothes and awsome morph packs. btw, Sess is my reworking of M3. I've been working on him for over a year. He's basically a typical Japanese Bishie but he leans on the real side more than cartoon. His face is partly based on a real person too, but it would surprise you if I told you who. LOL. I was aiming for an elegant and regal looking face. Anyhoo, I attached a picture that shows what his face looks like. bB
