Thomas was looking at my recent image 'Harem Scarem' that was shot in the early morning at the Brisbane Medieval Fair remarked about the contrast / colour... the image in my Gallery / Photogallery is actually in sepia and varies from the one posted in full colour here. I was limited by positioning by ropes, crowd etc and had to shoot quickly here'on the run' Have a look at both if you can ... does anyone have any suggestions as to improving this picture?

Oooops. Have you been using a lens-hood? There's a lot of light that should not be there. Of course, after looking at the original work - in sepia it's way better.

I wouldn't try to make the sepia-version darker - more contrast seems to be the better way. I've added a quick postwork for you. Curves (s-shape) and some "tiefen & lichter" (dunno how this is called in the english PS) - it's a new tool in PS CS.

To me, it looks better now - but it has also lost that very old touch your image has. It's up to you what you want to achieve. ;-)

And how to improve the original? Sorry, in light like that, i feel there's no real chance of getting better images. Polarizing filter, ND-filter and underexposure may help, but ... it's really stupid making shows like that in such a light - know this situations very well.

yeah, I wondered whether it was an organiser's special tester for photographers having the participants parade in bright light of early morning. I was actually shooting out of shadow when they passed into a bit of tree shadow ... sun strong on my right side... It was impossible to get closer from any other angle at the march past due to the route they people walked and the roping off. I managed to get better photos in the afternoon... when there was a much better light going on everyone a bit less self conscious... will show these from time to time. nice save... with such light... going to a monchrome tone helps to use the whiteness to your benefit

I think u did great with ur postwork Adam, it's so much better than the original indeed!
