Subject: Living threads, dead threads

I just had the idea, that it would be fine if one could see at first glance whether a thread in this forum is still alive or already "dead", i.e. whether it has a fresh reply/entry or not. Perhaps this could be done with a little square having the colour red for hot/active and blue for cold/inactive and some colours in between for active within the last three days or inactive since one week or something like this.

And a link to those threads that don't show up in the first page anymore but still are active would be fine too...

Great idea, there is always something to improve!

Wouldn't the easiest thing be to order the threads by the date of the last message added to them, rather than by the date of the first message (as they are now) ?

I use the 'Mark all read' button to archive everything when I finish reading the forum. When I come back to it later, only the threads with new messages are there to view. If I want to go back to messages that haven't been added to, they are conveniently in the archives, or I can search for them using a keyword. HTH

It does help, thanks! :-)

Hi Andreas (and all)! I'll pass your suggestion to the admins. Thank you! Barb

Hi Barb,

thank you very much.

I have used the 'Mark all Read' button. All threads disappeared. Today I see all the threads from yesterday - because they have new entries?

The locked thread with the flaming on flames' starters is so long that it displaces older threads. Perhaps one should have a little cross to open/close the full entry list...

Ciao,
Andreas

Yes, Andreas, it makes threads with new posts re-appear. And thank you for asking, because that was a feature I wasn't aware of! blushes LOL runs to use the "mark all read" button like crazy

And the little plus sign for openening the full thread entries list?

Well, I'll pass that to the admins as well. :)

Near the "Mark all read" button is one that says "Archive". That is all the threads that the moderators have not erased from the data base. All of them! I don't think our mods have ever erased any of them, so just click on that and all the old threads will come up. You may have to wait a little if you have a slow machine, because it really is ALL of them, lol.

Then it would even better to be able to expand/collapse threads...

Now that I've played with the options that are there, I don't see any great need to change anything: If you want to find out about something specific you can do a search (including searching for your own name, if you want to find all threads you contributed to); If you want to read only active threads, you just click Mark All Read each time you exit the forum; If you want to see all the old threads, just click archive. I'm on dial-up, and haven't found it particularly slow. Having the + would be nice, but there are other things that I'd rather were sorted out first.
