Hi all

I've been working on a new design.. trying to go for a stylish, classy design. However I'm afraid I overdid and it's actually "declining" (does this fit? This word comes from an online translator.. it's "decadent" in dutch).

I'm quite interested in what you think of it.. it's a design for a gallery page, the banner wil remain while the content on the place of the shot and text will change.

my first impression: the banner is too big & takes away from the photo you are presenting

my suggestion would be to make it narrower & possibly B&W or faded color

& the font used in the banner could be centered

I would have to agree with Cindy on the width of the banner, personally I think I might have used one image for the banner either cropped or resized, I love the font. This looks like a classy site you are putting together! Congrats! :)

I'm in agreement with cyn and brenda. I like the classy design and the minimalist appearance of everything but the banner. I would reduce its height by up to 1/2 and maybe make the images blend more. One way to do this is to colorize them close to the banners' background color, and then do about a 20% fill of that color over them so them don't just out so much. I would consider using just one image and have the title text centered to the right. I'm in the middle of making a site for my wife's new tarot kit so I've been wrestling with similar issues. To make that design you will most likely have to slice it up in image ready.The grey lines will not appear like that unless they are an image... or you have a webbuilder that allows horizontal and vertical lines to be dragged in place. If you use this as just one big background image it will make it hard for anyone with dial up to load. Beautiful is spelled with "u" not "Y" One thing that makes a good website is having proper spelling. No matter which language. Other than that it is an elegant design.

the text was just a dummy text.. so don't worry about that :) The lines are possible in CSS just a one pixel solid border with a specified color. Assign it ta a table with a specific classname, take care of correct sizing et voila I got the technique covered, don't worry about that :D Thanks for the input though :)

I think your color combo works well. The title font adds a certain amount of elegance to the site so make sure you reflect that throughout. I don't have much to offer that hasn't been mentioned already. So, this may be a bit tiny and I only mention it because it nags at me. The title, to me, might beter read, "God's (with an apostrophy) Wonderful Creations". Saying "creation" makes it sound like you are only going to be focosing on 1 of them. So, just a thought. Your navigation will be the next "hurdle", so to speak. But, I like it!

I used single tence (or however you say that) because I try to capture small tiny thing in the whole of this world.. everyting around is "the creation" I'm trying to capture.. On my new site I hope to place rather diverse photo's.. Also portraits.. landscapes, macro, birds.. All "nature" thatwas created ni an unimaginable beauty. The things I'll miss is poeples creation: stuff like architecture, electronics etc. @Cynlee: thanks!

Ooooh, you have your work cut out for you with that border and overlapping. The tables will be hell. :-/ Unless everybody sees the site at the same resolution like you, the layout will be messed or they will get a horizontal scrollbar. The latter is awful. I'd suggest either losing the flower in the banner or moving it close to the text and then just having the coloured background in the right side of the page. You can use a picture one pixel wide as the background of a cell. So you can have exactly the same colour as on the banner image. Then, navigation. How are you going to solve going from one pic to the next? I'd suggest moving the camera info higher and then addign two links, "gallery" and "next" below it. It's definitely "God's", not "Gods". The second is plural. But I really do like the way it looks and the colours.

I changed God's.. And started working on the HTML. Just using CSS and backghround colors.. it validates and in firefox it renders ok.. Not in IE.

So for the techies, I deleted the dtd to show what I'm working on.

Looking cool. Just a couple of things. Why utf-8 and not iso-8859-1? The first one should work more or less okay, but still... Why those values for cells? I mean, why 29, 272 and so on? why not round numbers like 30 or 270? And frankly, I hate messing with the status bar.

Looking good, but you appear to have a 1 pixel shift down so the grey line does not line up exactly. I know from using Dreamweaver that unless I set my margins to 0 in Modify - Page Properties, I run into this problem. Otherwise, looking good. I like the old site too, but the new one certainly takes it up a notch! :)

well, I looked at the code and it appears fine, so perhaps the issue is with that border you gave the internal table. Easy to fix, when you figure out what is causing it. ;]

The main table is about three pixels from the top in Opera. It aligns fine in Explorer and Netscape 8 with Firefox engine. Hmmm. Ah. Johannes, you should line the border right, bottom, left. The order in CSS should always go clockwise from top. And since there's no top here... That might fix the gap. As to why the word body is not centered in Netscape, I have no idea.

The body has margins of 0.. and margins in html are not w3c compatible.. got to dig for that one pixel :S

Okay, that 1 pixel could be a Safari thing. It isn't an issue when I look at it in Explorer, but in Explorer (Mac, not PC) the gray bar overlaps the inner frame next to the picture on the right and looks a little odd. All these cross browser issues, I'm glad I don't do this for a living. ;-]

I think it would be better.. it could anoy visitors i guess (driving me crazy if I don't find where to clik fast enough)
