For info on where to find good ones, both pay and free, I really recommend http://thepluginsite.com/ I also use some of the Photoshop actions by Fred Miranda, one of them on almost every image I do (that's a free one, even). http://www.fredmiranda.com/ If you have something specific in mind that you'd like to know about, post what it is and I'm sure a few folks around will be able to tell you what they think of it and how useful it is. bonni"When a man gives his opinion, he's a man. Thanks bonni for the link to Fred Miranda's site. I got the frames plug-in and it is great. I like to present my art with a finished appearance to give viewers a sense of what it would look like framed and/or matted. This FM plug-in PS action is super. The image with link is my first, a matted presentation. This action allowed for portions of my image to overlap the matte, something I've wanted to do for a long time. I did eliminate the top overlay and right side overlay in this image as my design didn't work on those parts. Do you have any other recommendations on his plug-ins that would be good for graphics rather than photos? Since I'm new to PS, the helpful input of experienced PS users in this forum is really helping me. Thanks everyone. Suzanne

SuzanneDo you have any other recommendations on his plug-ins that would be good for graphics rather than photos? Well, it depends on what you want to do. There are different plugins that are more useful for, say, making web graphics and ornamental stuff, plugins that are good for doing artsy effects of various kinds, it just depends on what you do and what you want to do. bonni

Well, the Fred Miranda site is mostly geared to Photography, although I use his free sharpening action constantly (and he's got a couple pay ones). Again, it depends what you want. Do you want to play with the colors? Add special effects? What sort? Do you want to do fancy masking on the borders? There are thousands of plugins, actions, and related filters and plugins out there. Something that I may use regularly would be useless to others, and vice versa. The best thing to do, IMHO, is have a good look around at what you might be interested in trying, and then ask if it's something you want to know more about. And you can always download the free ones like mad (I know I do! ;)). As a general rule of thumb, for pay filters I find the most useful to be those from Alien Skin (Eye Candy and Splat). I use those a great deal. Lately, though, I find that I rely far more on actual Photoshop features rather than third party plugins. bnni

I have been download freebee's, and will continue, tossing what is useless to me. I have KPT and really like them. I just ordered Knockout 2. I use both Painter and Photoshop. I was interested in Fred Miranda's Digital Soft Focus. I like the effect, but wasn't sure whether or not Photoshop could do the same with the subtle changes that look natural. I'll be testing that out to compare. I'm wide open on effects, but prefer those that mix well with painting and yet make it worthwhile to use. It's hard for me to describe. I want to be able to work with photos and try collage combining my painting & photos, and using filters for different effects. My feeling is to try to keep it simple, but impacting. I agree, I'll check them out and ask if anyone as experience with that effect. Thanks so much for all the input. Suzanne

I personaly dont like plug-ins at all. First learn how to do the desired effect manualy, and then if you really want use plug-ins to speed up the work. I was spent almost a year learning different selection techniques. Here is the link for the page that was made by serious professionals, there you can find quality plug-ins and lotts of other stuff :) Hope this will help you :)Message edited on: 08/12/2005 11:22
Open your mind and share the knowledge!
Thanks tantarus! I have links to quality plug-ins, etc. made by serious professionals. I'm afraid much of what is on the link you provided has to do with older PS versions, some of which won't work with PS CS2. Since it isn't always easy to determine what version the plugin was made for, I have to pass on a lot of plugins. I took a look at your gallery. I'm wondering if you will be posting some of your non-Bryce, PS original work that doesn't use plugins? I would like to be inspired by such original work. From your comments, I gather you have considerable experience at producing such original and pure work. Would you please share that with us? Thank you so much for your post and link :) Suzanne
