Anyone else been working with dynamic beards? I have been mesing around with this for a couple of days now and just cant seem to get the hair settings right. I have tried different clump settings, as well as thickness - I even followed the tutorial on EF's site using their settings.

But still looks patchy - any suggestions?????

The hair density would have to be higher than 209 hairs IMO.

I'd try changing the "Pull Down" option. one of the main problems with dynamic hair is that when viewed striaght on, you can see through the hair and whats underneath (his chin) set the tip width and root width to the same number (facial hair is short, and so shouldnt be thinner at the tips. also, the default material that poser applies to hair makes the roots of the hairs slightly transperant (as it assumes you are using a textured skullcap!). so jump into the material room and change the option to 0 for root transperancy. I'll have a quick play now, and post my results.

Well if you look at his actual settings he's got the hair density set at 10,000. I have not figured out why Poser has two different numbers there. It's like each figure is limited to so much hair and then Poser starts doling out minimal ammounts to new hair areas. Looks like this guy got to have most of his hair on his head so his face is loosing out. I've run into that in the hair room as well. It's quite frustrating to have your setting that high and only seeing 209 hairs!! Now I know how the clients of "Hair Club For Men" feel!

"Well if you look at his actual settings he's got the hair density set at 10,000. I have not figured out why Poser has two different numbers there" One of them is a density, the other is a total number. The density says "10,000 hairs per square unit", where "unit" equals whatever you set in the Poser Prefs. I assume you're having it set to PNU, hence the large number - if you set it to inches or centimeters, you should see smaller numbers. Turn it up until you see a total number of ~2000 or more hairs, then it should look much better.

Although it costs allot of 'puter power you should try setting the collision 'on' for head and the hair groups. Then when running the dynamic calculation it will fall nicely on his face instead of into it. Style it a bit so it doesn't hang straight down, then run the calculation.

And make sure hairs are not inside his face when you start the calculation, if they are they'll stay inside.
