Subject: DAZ|Studio 0_9_28_1_RC, slow loading characters.

I found the problem within minutes after installation. Load Victoria 3, default figure, and wait over 6 minutes for her to show up. The bug has already been reported by many. Ouch. Maybe they'll get it right in the next build.

Specifically it is slow when loading Poser specific content. If you save it as a .DAZ file it is much quicker. That said, I do agree that this is a bug to be fixed.

More stuff than you can keep track of? Try the free Poser Download Tracker.

It's reportedly been fixed for the next release, which I doubt will be v1.0 as promised...

Someone discovered a workaround for this, until the fixed version is released--once you've started loading, just minimize D|S until the item is loaded. You'll get something much closer to the expected load time for a figure, rather than the 5+ minutes that we're seeing with D|S maximized while loading. I suspect it's something with the OpenGL preview that's gone hinky.

A reply on the DAZ forums indicated the problem is with the code controlling updates to the "Loading Progress" dialogue. It's dedicating too many clock cycles to the progress bar updating, begins to thrash in memory, and forgets to hand back to the "load the next bit of .cr2 file" routine. And it is that specific: loading files already in D|S format seems to be unaffected, as BColeman said above. If the D|S window is minimised, no progress bar is displayed, so no wasted time and that's why the load is almost back to normal.

When I minimized the D|S window, I lost my Scene tab. Ouch.
