In a nutshell, Carrara is better at modeling and texturing than Bryce is. And it's faster at rendering than Bryce and has more rendering features/quality than Bryce has.

You won't be disappointed. I've regrettably retired Bryce from my daily use about a two years ago. It just hasn't kept up with 3d advancements. Carrara has reasonably mature landscape and plant generators - arguably on par with Bryce. Add a renderer that is easily 6 to 7 times faster plus global illumination, indirect lighting, "real" modeling tools and a host of inexpensive plug-ins that extend Carrara's capabilities even further and you've got a program you can be happy to work with. Just my .02...
I believe Bryce 5 terrain meshes use logical rather than physical polygons like Carrara terrain meshes use. Physical polygons require more RAM and CPU rendering time.

I think Bryce skies are still better than Carrara. However, if you get the DCG plug-ins (and whoever sells Veloute now), you can model and shade terrains better than bryce, from my experience.
I switched from Bryce to Carrara about 18 months ago. I used to use Bryce for occasional terrains and skies. Now it is just for the occasional sky.
Also, Carrara seems to be evolving much more quickly than Bryce which hasn't moved much in the last few years.
Just a few thoughts...

Hey there! I have tested Carrara briefly, and Im very curious about gettin into the program a little bit more. Ive been a bryce-user for many years and I thought I would ask if anyone here have comparisons or opinions about the two progs. Should I begin to fool around with Carrara?
