Subject: Looking for Granny hair

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 20 August 2005 at 5:35 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 1:48 AM

Does anyone know of some hair that would be ideal for an elderly lady... please don't suggest bald!!!! I want something short, either curly or not, and has silver/white/bluish hair texture(s). I mostly have "trendy" hair, and I don't think a lady in her 70's looks very good in "Ivy's Long Tails", or perky ponytails, LOL

Koz's "All Back Hair" may work. You can always make your own textures to go with any hair if there aren't any suitable ones out there. BTW, I know a lot of "Senior Citizens" with Mohawks and Dreads. :p

3Dream History hair, off the top of my head...

Thanks. I checked those out, but they have too much hair. I'm hoping to find a more "thinning" hairstyle.

I like the Alicia Hair at RDNA. The default is an Afro style, but it's got a lot of morphs to make it longer or shorter, and textures for curls that are less tight. There are gray and silver textures, too, though I can't remember if they came with the hair or were sold separately.

You can also make your own white/gray texture for any hair you have, by desaturating a blonde hair texture in Photoshop.

If you don't mind working with P5 hair, check out the package (huge) of Judy's morphs at the link above.

The image is the thumbnail file for one of the included hair that might do the job for you.

That's a nice looking site. I saw some great trees, only they are for Bryce which I don't use. I didn't see any hair there though.

Well, not like my Saintly Granny, but used MWGel Hair and one called Cropped Hair (forgive me for not looking up the generous and talented author) in this render of a Sr. with short-ish hair in the thread linked above.

Nance, forgive me for not understanding...

You named 2 types of hair; "MWGel Hair" and "Cropped Hair". Can you tell me which one you used in that render you linked me too? Also where to get the "cropped hair"? The one in your render looks like it would be ideal.

DAZ's UpDo2 is adjustable so it will work for an elderly lady. They don't show it in any of the promos, but you can make the bun smooth and get rid of the strands all in her face, so it's nice and neat. It doesn't come with a gray or white texture, but there are add-on textures available. bonni

Thanks. I put that into my wish list for the moment. It's still more hair than I was looking for. I was hoping to find a thinning, shorter style.... typical "little old lady" type do. Kind of along the lines of Sophia on the Golden Girls, only less hair, and shorter. The hair in Nance's render from what I can see anyway, looks like it would work, only I'm not sure which hair she used there as she mentioned 2, and I can't find the "Cropped Hair" in order to look at it. http://home.indy.rr.com/themasts/with%20mommy%20and%20grandma.JPG http://homepages.uc.edu:8000/~wolterk/family/Grandma%20Bolser,%20Lauren,%20and%20Ken%20(03-2001).JPG http://scottstuff.net/misc/grandma.jpg

And another example. I think I've looked at every grandma on the internet, hehe

I used both. When I got the MWGel hair (DAZ retail product) scaled as short as I wanted, there were poke-through problems, so I also added the Crop hair, using the same map, as a second parented prop to cover the exposed bald spots.. Embarrassed to say that I cannot find the original DL of what I referred to as the Cropped Hair (that may not even be the authors original name for the item). but essentially any skullcap type mesh would have served the purpose. (& if anyone recognizes the shorter hair mesh above please clue me in.)

Acadia ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2005 at 8:22 AM

Thanks for posting that. I don't see a whole lot of difference between the end result and the Gel Hair, other than the back appears slightly more thick. The middle hair that you refer to as "Crop" would be ideal for an older women too. Not all older women have pin curled hair. Hopefully someone will know the name of that one :)

That's something similar to the middle hair.

That's not bad. I added that one to my wish list for the moment too. It's a bit more trendy than what I wanted, and it's still "too much" hair. I have always visioned "grandmas" with typically short, pin curled or pin-curled like, white or bluish hair, and the older they are, the thinner their hair. I just want to make a really old, plain, everyday lady with typical granny hair. This is what I have so far. She's very plain and needs a plain hairstyle.

Daz used to have one called Razzle Dazzle hair style. Don't know if it's still there. Looks more like a 30's style hairstyle tho. Laurie

Acadia ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2005 at 9:37 PM

I have Razzle Dazzle hair, but it's not right for this figure. That's more of a young flapper style.
