Subject: Miki Face Room fix

clsteve ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 1:21 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 8:11 AM

Hello everyone,

As you know there are some issues with the Face Room for Miki, accidentally the initial Windows version of the Face room installer for Miki was released with a wrong figure key value. For most users, this will result in Miki not being recognized as a figure supported by the Face room. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide an updated installer that fixes this problem. For the time being, if you want to use Miki in the Face room immediately, please exercise the following steps:

  1. Locate your known heads list
    (RuntimeheadsknownFaceRoomHeads.xml)
    and create a backup of the file in a safe location.

  2. If running, exit Poser 6. Open knownFaceRoomHeads.xml in a text editor, for example Notepad.

  3. In the line

mackey="9418126134100" headIndex="20" folder=":Runtime:heads:Miki"
transparencyMap="mikiTransparency.png" materialName="Head"/> please exchange the attribute key="9015710722975" with key="1097865049"

Once you're done, the line should look like this:

mackey="9418126134100" headIndex="20" folder=":Runtime:heads:Miki"
transparencyMap="mikiTransparency.png" materialName="Head"/>

  1. Save the modified file to
    RuntimeheadsknownFaceRoomHeads.xml
    and launch Poser 6. Miki should now be recognized by the Face room.

The above fix will not address the issue of Photo Matching. We are working diligently to resolve that issue and will notify you when a new installer is available.

Thank you,

EFSteve

Yes, that works. For clarity, you may want to fix the XML line in the message since the first part of it is being truncated. Almost forgot (it's late): Thanks!!

Thanks clSteve, I don't know whether it is the P6 Face Room, or Miki in particular, but I can get much more dramatically different faces than I ever could in P5.

clsteve said Once you're done, the line should look like this: mackey="9418126134100" headIndex="20" folder=":Runtime:heads:Miki" transparencyMap="mikiTransparency.png" materialName="Head"/> but that looks exactly the same as the line that is wrong or am I missing something ?

  1. In the line mackey="9418126134100" headIndex="20" folder=":Runtime:heads:Miki" transparencyMap="mikiTransparency.png" materialName="Head"/> please exchange the attribute key="9015710722975" with key="1097865049" Once you're done, the line should look like this: mackey="9418126134100" headIndex="20" folder=":Runtime:heads:Miki" transparencyMap="mikiTransparency.png" materialName="Head"/> OT: clsteve, any chance of a low-res Miki? She looks great, but if I buy her, I'll want to re-divide the mesh millenium-style. That would be much less painful with fewer polygons to worry about :)

ummm thankyou RHatch I think :P Maybe i'll just wait for the movie

clsteve ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 10:42 AM

Thankyou clsteve but I think I better just wait for the patch , before I do some real damage :)

Thanks Steve! R_Hatch, De-rezzing a completed figure like Miki isn't practicle and akin to rebuilding it from scratch. Just so you know.

Yay, all fixed now. Thanks. :)

Francemi ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 9:48 PM

Hum... Was that supposed to be installed by running the file "InstallMikiHeadData.exe"? Because if it was, it didn't work for me. I open knownFaceRoomHeads.xml and there is no mention of Miki at all in there. The numbers are not there either. ;o(

byAnton: Yes, I am aware of that. If I bought Miki as is, I would need to do that myself in order to get the use of her that I want. My reason for asking eFrontier to do this is that I would think that the creator most likely used subdivision surface modeling, and would therefor have access to a pre-existing, lower-resolution mesh. If that is not the case, then I would not expect them to create a lower resolution version from scratch unless there was overwhelming demand. Either way, I'm still hammering away on my own model.
