Subject: Applying a bitmap as a bump map

yossam ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 2:01 PM ยท edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 7:50 PM

I have two very high resoluton images that I am trying to use to create a model of the Earth. The color map is in .jpg and applies with no problem after a small wait. The second is in .png format and is the bump map. How do you apply the bump map so the heights are correct ? I know this is probably simple and that I am missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Richard

Normally, you just select mapped picture in the bump tab, choose you image, and voil Change bump strengh if need be, but that's about it. Use a filer if you want, you can use the "bump quantize" from "other filters", it prevents artifacts. The only other solution I see is to use the image offset parameters in this tab. The scale for this tab is in pixels, so values of 100 or greater are generally needed. All I can see.

There is no mapped picture in the bump tab. I have looked at everything believe me.

Oh, ok I see. When in the bump tab, control click the gray sphere, and you'll get to the function editor. ; There, click on an empty space near the " bump output", and this little red square appears. Now click the 6th icon on the left. And choose your image to apply as bump.
