THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Totally New at this

Alright, here it is. I got Bryce 5 last night. I installed it last night. I ran it today, no problems (except that it doesnt take the whole screen, which I find odd). Unfortunately, any futile attempt at making anything has resulted in something along the lines of "Oh, hmm... I dont know". I like the way Bryce does its job, but I cant do anything with it. im looking for any kind of help, though preferably tutorials to show me how ANYTHING works in this program. Ive been using Rhino3D for years but wanted to look into something new. Any help is appreciated!

move your mouse up and down the bottom right of the screen some icons will appear. one of them makes bryce full screen. i find the best way to learn bryce is just press buttons and see what you get

There's a whole bunch of Bryce tutorials in Renderosity's Tutorial section (linked from the top of every page) plus tons more on the web. The best place to start is brycetech.com - quite simply, Brycetech rules :-) Good luck and have fun, cam

Theres some Bryce tutorials here at Renderosity under the tutorials section, as well as some at Daz3d.com. I would just do a google search for Bryce tutorials, there's tons. Oh and yeah, just start pushing buttons, that's how most of us learned ;-)

you'll get used to 'screen-edge hammering'..repeatedly smashing your mouse against the upper edge of the screen to get the menus to come down..just something peculiar (very) to Bryce..;) Ask us, we can be helpful, or at least mostly harmless..and you can import Rhino models in, and texture them with Bryce materials, so there's a start..;)

Import some of your Rhino models and render them. I usually use the obj format because it is very Bryce friendly. You will also want to check out the freestuff for additional Bryce 5 material presets. Sometimes it is fun to just make landscapes too. Dont forget to pickup "Real World Bryce 4" at the link in the header. It applies to 99 percent of what you will encounter in Bryce 5. I second what was said prev. about Brycetech.

ah, a familiar face! UVDan! I've tried to export my files as obj so that Bryce can read them, but when I import them into Bryce it says "an unexpected error has occured (invalid format)", so I cant do a thing.

Can you post the export settings you use when saving out of Rhino? I think we can clear up the invalid format very easily.

Note that the only difference is that I DO NOT export the material definitions, or the object names. I just exported a glass that I made in Rhino 2 and it snapped right into Bryce 5. Do not export any curves. Select and delete all curves before meshing. Mesh using the tools/polygon mesh/from nurbs object menu. Give it a try and get back to me. Also export your trims as curves, not polylines as noted in the screenshot above.

Alright, Ive done exactly that and havent gotten anywhere. The entire model hasnt a single curve in it, so I dont need to worry about that. I simply did exactly as you've shown I even tried meshing it before export, but to no avail

Ok, one more suggestion. Open it up in UV Mapper, then save it out. You do not even have to apply mapping. Just open, then save again.

What about other formats? Can you export 3DS and open it in Bryce? This is what dukduk recommends over in the Rhino forum.

Can you IM me an email address so I can send you one of my rhino models that was exported in obj format with version 2. I would like to see if one of my models will import into Bryce on your computer. On Bryce you are importing from the file menu and not the create button right?
