Subject: Annoying P6 problem...

DocMatter ( ) posted Sat, 03 September 2005 at 1:09 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 7:39 AM

I've noticed lately that some of my .pz3 files have been losing content. At first, it only happened if P6 locked up and I closed it with ctl+alt+del. When I reopened the file, most of the content was missing (i.e. lights, textures, and some figures). But now its happening with files that I normally save and close. I open them up and they show up in wireframe mode, no lights, very few if any textures, and some of the figures are missing. Is this happening to anyone else? I have 1 GB RAM and a 1.8 MHz P4 processor and have SR1 installed.

Do you save them as compressed files? And do you save them with external morphs? If so, they WILL get wonky if the files are moved later.

This can happen with standard MAT pose files, that leave unconnected nodes in the material room. After applying such a MAT pose, use the "Remove Detached Nodes" (press shift while clicking, to apply it to all materials at once). After that the file should be completely written to disk.

This happens in P5 too

Something similar happens to me with P6 SR1, but it's not after saving; it's after a render. After about an hour or so working in a scene--without adding or switching anything--P6 will begin to slow substantially. After that amount of time, I will have done several test renders. Then, all of a sudden, I do another test render, come back to the preview window, and almost everything is gone! Some of the scene props will still be there and maybe a hair prop, but everything else is gone. The characters are still listed in the drop-down but they are not there. Without saving, I check the file sizes of the pz3 and pmd. What used to be 7 or 8 meg files are now about a half meg in size. (I had done several saves before this happened.) Apparantly, P6 was saving the files while it was destroying them. NOTE: Each time the scenes were small. Two lightly injected mil characters and a few scene props. I've learned not to do anything larger in P6. It happened three times to me. I've had to completely re-do everything. I've never had this happen in P6 before SR1. Neither has it happened in P5, P4, or P4 with ProPack. I have a dual-pentium zeon, 1 gig o' ram, 350 gig HD machine.
