Subject: What do you use Poser for?

AtelierAriel ( ) posted Mon, 19 September 2005 at 3:29 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 2:04 PM

Someone came to my house while I was working on a product and asked, "But what do people who buy your products use them for?" And I said, Art....and couldn't think of anything else so thought that this would be a fun question to ask. What do you use Poser for?

dante ( ) posted Mon, 19 September 2005 at 3:46 PM

Illustration...books, and graphic novels...mostly...

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Mon, 19 September 2005 at 3:47 PM

Creating plugins that don't need Poser but use the content. (?) ;)

I'm tempted to say "For about 8 hours a day..." More seriously, for educational courseware and for my animated blog.

Animation,.. for demostration based on political and society related. Poser is low cost and may be used for multi-purposes. I use Poser alot because I like the libraries and dynamic functions. Renderer in Poser is ok. Vue and Carrara is good combined with Poser.

Apart from developping content for it, I have used Poser people as virtual mannnequins for Helmets in our motorcycle catalog and website. Our photographer had snapped all the helmets sitting on awful white styrofoam heads, there was not time to shoot with a real guy, so Michael substituted quite nicely at a moment's notice!

For fun. I'm a hobbyist... Cheers, Diolma

Illustrating my own stories (for fun). Agree with GWeb on rendering. Poser does some things very well, but taking scenes into Vue, Carrara or Cinema 4d (thanks to Kuroyume's Interposer) really expands the app.

Calendars, note cards, greeting cards, story illustrations and other such things.

Acadia ( ) posted Mon, 19 September 2005 at 11:00 PM

It's a hobby for me. I render figures and upload them to my site as tubes for the graphic community to use for whatever they want. Sometimes I use what I create to make a pictures (not often), and sometimes I'll get a web job that requires some "original" art, so I use Poser for that. But it's mostly a hobby and a nice... and sometimes frustrating... way to spend time being creative.

To make sure that any "spare time" I could possibly have in my life is squandered. Who needs sleep anyway?

To add to destro75, to make sure that any "spare money" in my life is squandered on Poser content. Who needs food?

Started with simple illustrations of what I was writing, as a visual 'prop' of what I have flowing onto the page, and progressed to animation from there. Still a hobbyist, but am hopefully getting to the point I can finish a project and actually charge for it....

bandolin ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2005 at 8:40 AM

Ockham said "For about 8 hours a day..." Very funny :D That's just one render though :P

alexic ( ) posted Thu, 22 September 2005 at 10:14 PM

I see Poser from a photographic behind-the-camera standpoint, where a professional model will cost $200 an hour and take at least two hours to understand a pose. And then want a drink of water (sorry, stoli) and reappear two hours later. Looking drunk. I have given up on photography. Of live models at least. No contracts to sign. Ok, she does porn too. But mostly she can hold a pose without getting too drunk. I love live models, just not when I'm telling them to pose for me.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Fri, 23 September 2005 at 2:35 PM

Live models?

Try having them agree to be at a certain place at a certain time -- and then not bothering to show up. After preparations and time spent on the photographer's part getting ready for the shoot.

One thing that I'll say for V3. She never misses an appointment.

Argon18 ( ) posted Fri, 23 September 2005 at 3:36 PM

Well I wouldn't let on that they are prefered over live models, since the next thing you know Nestor Sextone will hear of it then get V3 and the others to join the union and protest over the abuse they've had to suffer.
