Hi NimProdAction, I really like Propellerhead Reason 3.0. You might be able to locate it on e-Bay. Clint

If you are looking for a free sound editor, try Audacity, which I am providing a link to. Audacity also accepts VST plugins. Cakewalk Pro Audio is feature rich, but is a program you have to shell out cash for. If you are good with programming, and musically literate, Fruity Loops is a good one to have. Slightly more pricey and more feature enriched to boot is Acid Pro. If you have a midi controller and need a software synth that is easy to use, then Simsynth is a good program.

I found Adobe Audition to be great and easy to learn.

Advice: Use instrumentals only. That way if you do have any Voice Overs in your video the singer won't be out screaming the narrative or characters.

Also, make sure you have permission to use the music from the original artist before you use it. A good place to find another artist who can do a good rendition of the "Original" will cost you allot less.

If you don't get permission to use the original artists works you can really run into legal troubles should you get caught. Remember, most popular artists do not record their own music these days. The record company tells them what songs they will perform, and of course the record company owns all the rights to the music.

When you write for permission, be prepared to never receive a reply.

Record companies have their own staff of lawyers. I have been told by others inside the industry the reason they seldom grant permission is so the liars lawyers can justify their jobs by generating paperwork for tort cases.

A Google search should produce some results for copyright free material for use. You may have to spend some $$ to gain permission, but it is much better than to be sued. If you think you don't own anything worth their bother, you are wrong. Life insurance policies, for instance, are tangible property to corporations who stack one penny atop another to boost their bottom line. You might find yourself working for ever to pay off a judgment case.

If you use original sound tracks and do not get permission to use, I can guarantee you that you won't be able to post your video at Renderosity. Well, if it is "original" music, then it's not anybody else's, so he wouldn't need permission. There are also a good amount of freeware programs which could be used to make music. www.kvr-audio.com and www.harmony-central.com are good places to start looking.

This (soudtrack permissions) starts to be a bigger headheack than i originaly thought. About the Reason 3...do i need to have a keyboard to use this?

I use Acid Pro myself, but they also have a (free) "lite" version called AcidExpress (look on the sidebar).

If you go to AcidPlanet you can download an 8Pack each week - [An 8pack project is an ACID file that includes eight loops arranged into a song. 8pack projects illustrate how a song is constructed in ACID software, and how easy it is to combine loops ]

great way to build up a loop library

I use the Magix program and like it,

I also have a midi sequencer, something you should think about getting if you get a keyboard.

Do you have a friend or family member thats into music? For possible exposure, they may be able to create something for you in trade.
