Subject: Dynamic Clothing

I was going through my wish list just now and noticed something odd.... I've seen it repeatedly stated that it's so much easier and faster to make dynamic clothing, than it is to make conforming. If this is true.... then how come the price of Dynamic clothing is so much higher than conforming clothing? Sometimes 2 or 3 times the price of a conforming outfit?

Not sure about the cost thing, but it is easier to make Dynamic cloth. Have a look at Cloth Primitives in my freestuff. Saying it's easier is maybe a bit misleading, it is easier to make a simple item, like a skirt or a t shirt for example. But making a more detailed model is trickier, mostly because the higher res the mesh is, the longer it takes to simulate in the cloth room. If you want to make your own clothes my advice would be to start with dynamic. make your mesh, import it in and see how it works in the Cloth room. You can always use the same mesh to have a go at conforming clothing afterwards. John.

No, I have no plans to make my own at this time. I'd like to learn how, but I'm still trying to find my way around the material room. I'm just very curious about why dynamic clothing seems to cost more when I see people repeatedly saying on the boards about how much easier it is to make dynamic clothing. What is a "cloth primitive"?

Well the only reason I can see that Dynamic Clothes are more expensive is that merchants get less sales off them, so the price is a bit higher. Because by nature dynamic clothes can increase the time it takes to create a scene they havn't taken off as much as conforming. Cloth Primitive is a term that I really hope will take off :) I worked out a way of making clothes in the cloth room with a simple mesh which I call a Cloth Primitive. If you have a look in my freestuff the Cloth Primitive item is a tutorial showing you how to do it, it also has a reasonable section on the Materials Room which might help you. John.

I intend to price my Dynamic clothing at less than conforming stuff. It takes about as much to time to make (I do include finished edges), the big saving in time is in setup and creating morphs to match the ones in the figure (but I gather some don't do that in their conforming clothing anyway). I put back some of the time saved by doing rather more textures than my conforming clothing gets. You can see where I am on prices in this set: http://www.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=3671&cat=5 I expect to make a lot more dynamic clothing, but I'll still be making conforming items. Dynamic clothing works especially well for dresses, always a problem in Poser. Now if I can just get Glamorous Jessi to stop popping out of her gown when she turns too fast... ;-)

I bought package last night :) I plan on trying it out this evening after I finish moving some of my runtimes to my external drive.
