Sounds cool :) I guess you can try the Babelfish translator at Altavista.

Francemi ( ) posted Mon, 10 October 2005 at 2:32 PM

Ouch! Looks like it has been translated using Babel Fish Translation! I am SO happy I understand English and can use my programs in English. Seriously though, it will probably help some French people who really don't understand English - even if half the terminology in there is still in English. Le "pack" ??? Le Pack Winter Queen Figure ??? Morph de Corps ??? Ce Pack bonus ??? Ombres Les et Image Based Lighting ??? And these are only parts of the Introduction Text too! If you use the French Version, be sure to have a French-Quec and a French-English dictionary at hand!

E-Frontiers sent out an email as well. Basically the French Special Edition is the same offer all of us got when Poser 6 first hit the Pre-Order market. It's Poser 6 SE with Winter Queen & Shade LE for $249 or $99 upgrade download edition and $129 upgrade boxed edition.

Well, the French isn't that bad. I've seen much worst. Q

Well, Anton, of course you are quite right. But there are people here of all cultures who are long time users of these products who would be quite ready, I'm sure, to help if only in a proof-reading capacity. I know I've offered this before at no charge. Some are ready to help with technical or artistic questions, others can contribute in other ways. Still, as I stated above, this isn't too bad a trnslation. Someone who never worked with these apps. might not understand, but anyone familiar with Poser type products can easily overlook the mistakes.

I daresay that e-frontier page is quite readable, although native francophones may regret the many anglicisms to be seen there. whilst babelfish is a valuable tool, its results may not always be wholly satisfactory.

Just wish they didn't translate the folder names :) When I bought P4 French, characters became "personnages" and libraries = "librairies"... you had to move quite any single file to the proper folder to make it work :) If you need some help with french, I can give you a hand Anton ;)

stewer ( ) posted Mon, 10 October 2005 at 10:07 PM

In Poser 6, the folder names on disk are not translated any more. I think it will still be able to read localized content from V4, but don't quote me on that.

Being used to awful translations in French, i'll stick to english versions. At least it's a real language, not a kind of word-to-word approximate babble... (or should i say babble-fish ?)

If the French version of the program is similar to the translation on the website, then it's lousy... 8P I'll stay with English version ;p

DominiqueB ( ) posted Tue, 11 October 2005 at 2:51 PM

Even if I am a francophone myself, I stay away from all french translated software packages, just try and get tech support in a language other than english, or to try and follow an english tutorial when all your buttons are labeled differently. I won't even use a french version of Windows, even at work where it is considered somewhat illegal not to use a french version.

Same here, Dominique! Whenever I have to use a French version of a program, I need a dictionary close by! And not only because the buttons are different but the text itself is weird to me. ;o)
