How to make some cloths like this... http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=28293 How do you start?

First you get a modelling program then you learn how to make objects and then when you are good at making objects you can start making clothes.

I think what durf needs is something to help teach them How to make them, so they can learn the technique for it and use that and learn from it. It would be a little helpful to most of us, actually... ^^

Let clarify things a bit. Are we discussing making textures for pre-existing models or are you looking to start from scratch? xantor's post seems, on the surface, a bit abrupt, but, in the larger scheme of things it's really not.. The first thing a newbie to Poser wants to do is "make cloths" and want s a tutorial to do that. The real problem lies in the fact that this really involved several disciplines. First you need to learn how to use a 3d modeling program, I use Carrara and have worked with it through 4 versions and with RayDream before that, say 7-8 years. After that time I feel I'm just becoming "good" enough to produce some quality models. Choose your modeling program and pick up one of the many instruction books to see how much work is involved in that area. Then there is the "poserizing" elements. Again that is much more complicated than it seems. For some ideas as to what that takes pick up a copy of "Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser5". Also cruise through the threads here and at places like Poser Pros. That element itself takes much time to master. Using myself as an example again, I've been working on Poser models almost as long as I've been working in 3d. Again I also feel that I'm just catching on to many of the inside tricks. Now, I'm sure that there are many people that can learn faster than i can! But constant requests of "a tutorial" on making cloths tends to start bringing out the short answers. All of that said... give us a little background on what you know, tell us what experience level your at and we might be able to start pointing you in a direction. Do you have a preferred modeling program? If so, have you looked in the forum for that program? Can you make a static figure of the clothing you want (if so you have already made your first dynamic clothing ;> ). Do you want to know how to make it conforming? In other words, help us, help you! mike P.S. to show you MY level of work here is a shot of a freebie set I'm working on for Blackhearted's Girl Next Door 2 morph for V3. I've been working on the Joint Parameters for the jeans for about a week now and I'm just getting ready to make the necessary "adjustment" morphs to correct some problems in the knees...

Check out the link in the sidebar called "Roy's Poser MAX tutorials." That will give you a first impression of what it takes to create clothes for Poser. And I second trav on that book, "Secrets of Poser Figure creation." I have a copy, and it is essential reading if you want to have the slightest chance of making something that actually works in Poser.

Very nice work, trav. That's one of the cleanest versions of the explanation we've all had to make when that question comes around. I wonder if there's a way to put your words into the FAQ? My story is, BTW, quite similar; modelled for two or three years before I could get up to the level of clothing items. And was working in Poser for over a year before I could rig them. And I love the BL Render book so much I'm one of its champions at Amazon. But anyhow... I'm not sure I see an outstanding reason to make lingerie. Except, of course, to become a merchant with it. There is already enough lacy nothings in the Poserverse that a Poser Christo could drape a scale Manhattan in them. But they also continue to sell, and well. As an artist, just go shopping. There's plenty for your needs. And it takes too much effort to make your own just for an image or two.

Quite a few beginners have came here and asked "how do I make clothes?" or "how do I make figures?" which is why I answered the way I did (trav was right).

The thing is, very few among the Poser community would NOT help someone learn, however it's a very hard thing to condense all that needs to be learned into a tutorial or 6. Some have tried, including myself (I failed). One of the best for a beginner is by PhilC. It's the one I started with, but it's not free. He also has a few video tuts on his web page that are worth the look. As I said, give us an idea of your level of expertise and we can, and very happily will, help you find the resources your need. But the more specific you can be in what you want to learn, and how much you already know, makes it easier to determine WHAT resource you need. mike

or you could just start with helmets and boots, and other things that don't have to bend or shift..;) what some people do is to actuall 'spray paint' (texture or UVMap) the desired areas, with a lingerie-like texture. Of course, UVMapping is a whole 'nother can of worms..but stop by the UVMapping forum and ask questions. UVMapper Classic is free, or you can kill 2 birds with one stone and get something like this..;) Wings local 509..;)
