Subject: Problem with people

Elminster_ZK ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 7:43 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 1:02 PM

Hello, I have a problem. Whenever I try to add a morph pack or texture to Mike of Vicky, say, like Fabrizio from the free stuff here, but really for any texture or character pack, it does not work. there is no result. The same goes for any kind of MAT texture for skin - like the sci-fi armor MAT from RDNA. What am I doing wrong. I have Mike and Vicky free from DAZ, and that's it. Thanks, Zak

Silly question, but do you have them selected when you are applying the morph pack? Also, something I noticed is that sometimes some of the settings for items originally set up for poser, will not work in D|S unless oyu go through and color it by hand (Aiko won't take textures on her lower thighs and knees for example, you have to manually set those). Just my experience there. After applying the mats, does anything show up in your surfaces window?

Yeah, I do. Um, no, I don't think so. The thing is - I know I'm doing something wrong, because when I used Poser, and tried the same thing, I still got nothing - I just have no idea what I'm doing wrong. ;(

Have you tried selecting the individual texture areas to see if you can manually apply a texture? And are you working in D|S 1? does your hardware support the OpenGL language well enough?

Elminster_ZK ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 11:31 AM

I'm using DAZ|Studio 1.0, and my hardware supports OpenGL. I can't apply the texture at all - well, that's not entirely true: example - for Vicky, sometimes, not always, the texture only applies to one area, specifically eyes. If the texture is a grey, all of a sudden, the eyes turn flat grey.

Which figure are you using, and which textures? If you are using a Victoria 1/2 texture or character on Victoria 3, or vice versa, then that is about what I'd expect since the material and morph names are different.

Elminster_ZK ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 3:24 PM

That could be it too. I'm using Vicky 3, and trying to apply the dna-cybersuit by nikitacreed - from RuntimeDNA freebies. What about that V3-to-V2 character that I got when I downloaded Vicky? Will that work?

artroland ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 5:25 PM

Well, V3 body textures will not work on her, because she has the V2 body. I've used the DNA Cybersuit before with no issues. Have you tried reloading the V3 character?

Elminster_ZK ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 6:26 PM

Yeah, but still no dice. I think (because of help in the poser forum) that it is because I don't have the morph pack from DAZ, I didn't buy it, I only got the free Vicky. Do you have the morph pack, artroland? Could that be why I can't load the suit?

artroland ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 9:53 PM

I doubt that is your issue. MAT files and MORPH files are usually distinctly different and seperate, and you would get an error message about your D|S not being able to locate a morph OBJ file. But regardless, it would still load the texture, because you do have that. Did you post a bug report at dazstudio.com?

Elminster_ZK ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 10:16 PM

No, but I'm not really sure it's a bug, because when I did this in Poser on another machine, I still couldn't get it to work... I'll contact DAZ customer support. Thanks artroland and RHaseltine. -Zak

You have to go back and forth between the scene tree and then content. Check out these tutorials there is a quick start and some others that are really helpful if your new. You can load morphs if they came with your content. Start simple first. ;) http://www.daz3d.com/support/tutorial/index.php?cat=4

Do you have a link to the cybersuit? I'm not finding it at RDNA.

Yeah, it's at the bottom of the page - it's on the last page of the RDNA Freebies listing - it's by nikitacreed.

Since it says Victoria rather than Victoria 3 I'd expect it to be for the version 1/2 figure. In addition to problems because the materail zone names don't match (so D|S will ignore most of the settings in the pose, because there's nowhere to apply them) it's a subdividing Matfile - meaning it splits the texturing at the joints to leave some areas with the original skin colour - and those don't work, or at least sometimes ddon't work, in D|S. I think you need to go to Windows>Surfaces, click the triangle button at top right and make sure Show surface list is selected, and then use regular multi-selection techniques (click to select, shift-click to select a range, cmd/ctrl-click to toggle the selection of a single item) to select the likely looking areas of the body, then in the Diffuse section click the button with the current texture name (or the triangle next to the colour chip if no texture is loaded), select Browse for image, and find the body texture (if the diffuse colour os not white click its chip and set it to white, too).

Thanks a lot for your help and time, RHaseltine, I'll try this.

Textures should show up if they are correct, however, sometimes w/ expressions for example it only adds the dials, then you can use them.
