Subject: Poser and general 3d question

I don't have poser, but have found that other export from poser or daz simply don't work well in other programs.ie obj. The textures and the mesh just don't look the same. Is this due to less polys? Am I better off getting poser? What other cost effective options might be suggested for organic stuff. Due to it's bugginess not really looking forward to that..don't think. I am using the vue trial and vue5 E is on the way..it seems flaky too(hope patches help) so...trying to limit my flaky ratio.

When you look into the gallery here you see tons of Poser imported stuff. Gives you maybe an impression of what is possible with Vue. Of course the nature of specific render settings will always bring differences between programs, so don't expect exactly the same look and feel as it is in the source programs. Polygons will not disappear but materials can look different more or less visible. Example? Poser is the one and only program that uses black as default color for highlights (especially in skin textures). To balance that out they make the highlight size really big. That is obviously the ideal setting for their own renderer. But when you export that to other programs it is maybe not so perfect there and needs a correction.

For organic stuff? What do you mean? creating organic textures, or creating organic 3d models? For the latter, I recommend XFrog, the best imho, but certainly not the most affordable. For a free generator, check this link.

Thanks.I know the poly's don't disappear unless you do something to the model.Wasn't quite what I meant. It may be a texture thing since it is apparent on hair, but I couldn't be sure about the mesh welding. However, I did an import of the daz fairie and the legs thru clothing looks too geometric. Here is a pic of an example. Thanks for the link I was aware of that program. I meant organic texturing and modeling in general, as opposed to architextural and mechanical. In this example the diff between a tail looking like a tail and a tube of toothpaste or paper. This may be a transparency texture issue. This is daz milhorse from daz1 to obj to carrara.(DAZ is awkward in some areas to me...particularly lighting.) In Vue trial which is what I have for now I end up with similiar blocky appearance when importing obj.

I only can say importing from Poser 6 works like a dream. Sometimes you have to change materials with refefections but that only take minutes. It is really so easy I just don't render in Poser anymore after the scene is set.

This is appears to be an alpha map issue. I know how to fix it in car, but vue 5 trial doesn't seem to support changing the map. does vue 5 espirit not have alpha support? I see transparency, but this doesn't really give control. ugh.

Poser is really cheap these days, if you look for Poser 4 (or Poser Artist as it's called now), so it would be worth your while to shop around for a copy. You could eliminate a lot of your import hassles that way!

Yeah, think 5 would be better...supposedly alot of changes from 4. Vue 5 E doesn't support the more advanced features of poser. Hoping C5 has some nice improvements. Poser is clunky and not user friendly tho.

Depends on what you want to do with your Poser stuff; if you want to use dynamics, bone meshes in the setup room, stuff like that, of course, P5 or P6 are the way to go. But even for animation, P4 or Pro Pack could be a very inexpensive alternative.

I did resolve this issue by relocating the transmap in the material editor. D|S just exports w/ no options so probably loses path info. I haven't ruled out getting poser. I am trying to avoid too many bits and pieces till I figure out what will give me a simplier, but easier work flow. The downer to the cheaper programs is you end up with too many that specialize. Not to say that the bigger ones don't, but in general seem to be more complete. I may have to. No offense, but e-on, as a company seems a bit annoying and e-frontier...hasn't overly impressed me either. They seem to be the quirkier of the 3D software out there, tho they obviously have their niche areas.
