Subject: Displacement mapping in V Infinite

pjlumby ( ) posted Sun, 23 October 2005 at 10:38 AM · edited Mon, 10 February 2025 at 5:01 PM

Does anyone know how to apply kutters displacement mapping tutorial to Infinite? (http://www.renderosity.com/tut.ez?Form.ViewPages=291) When I attempt it I get hopelessly lost editing the function in the distribution settings.

Thanks,

Infinite makes the process much simpler. In order to match the texture map with the terrain, you need use the object-parametric mapping mode for the terrains texture inside the Material Editor. The map will correspond with the terrain, though you map need to rotate the map 180 inside the function editor.

"The map will correspond with the terrain, though you map need to rotate the map 180 inside the function editor." I've never been able to understand why this hasn't been sorted out...when doing complex maps it always catches me out. Why can't all maps just be applied with the same rotation?! One of the quirks of Vue I suppose. Cheers

You also might want to take a look at Chipp Walter's tutorial on this subject.

I was able to take this terrain map and...

... and bump map it!

But it IS a real pain-in-the-rear to have to go through all the steps required- especially since in Bryce 5 bump mapping a terrain is as simple as bump mapping any other object!

This is why I'm ranting about E-On supporting Geo-Referenced Terrains! If they Geo-Reference Terrains they will de-bug the whole mapped terrain process in Vue- and we will even have SEA LEVELS that actually go where they are supposed to- like the way the old VistaPro does it so easily...
