Hey guys!!!

Im in quite a jam (not the kind you put on pancakes though) here and i could use some serious help. For my birthday my friends thought it would be cool to give me a tattoo....UGH!!! scared.gif

They will take me probably next weekend or so to get one and i have no idea what i want...HEEEEEEEEEELP!!! Been looking at all kinds of tattoos and nothing really appeals to me.

Then it hit me...why not get one of those armbands but instead of the classic barbwire i would get one with some elvish script. So i downloaded that Tengwar Cursive-font and just typed my name with it. Sure it looks kinda cool (at least to this LOTR-geek...sigh), but i think it would be cooler if it actually said something more profound. Like some words of wisdome or something. Any suggestions? And PLEASE if you can think of another design let me know...im scared, lol.

Andreas dork.gif

P.S. I realise that this thread serves absolutely NO purpose to anyone...i just wanted some suggestions from my friends with class and taste......so i wont get offended if you chose to delete it. #:o)

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Well, to start with, a tattoo should be something u REALLY want and that means something u thought about DEEPLY since u gonna have this in/on ur skin for the rest of ur life!! So if u're not sure, U better drop the idea all together! And I know what I'm talking about! ;) Just my 5 pennies worth!

Nilla ( ) posted Mon, 24 October 2005 at 8:51 PM

Amen to what Pascale just said, if you aren't sure you want it, take a rain check on it! I saw a girl with her name in japanese on the nape of her neck, I thought that was kind of cool personally. I have a collection... orchids, tiger, tribal, butterfly and an iris. Have been thinking about one more, but to be honest it will be something I have drawn as I am an artist. Remember a tattoo is forever unless you have it lasered off and that is supposed to be twice as painful and very very expensive. Brenda :)

Have I ever got a good little video in mpeg to send you.LOL Just exactly about this. It's funny, but really true. Maybe I should just load it to my site so others can check it out.

Attached Link: Check the video

Way off topic too, but good timing for it.I just got this sent to me. Be a bit patient for the download.Firefox...you may have to save to desk or double click the player bar to make it work proper.

Don't do it unless you REALLY want it. See the video, funny but to the point...Steve

tvernuccio ( ) posted Mon, 24 October 2005 at 11:46 PM

sorry i can't help you, Andreas. :( i would NEVER get a tattoo!!! in the first place, i don't like pain. in the second place, i don't like being cut open with sharp instruments of torture! in the third place, if i wanted to get a tattoo, i would get one of those...oh...what do you call them...Hinnea ink tattoos (i think that's how you call them) which are drawn on and aren't permanent. still gotta before careful with those though...some places use cheap ink and some people have allergies. anyway, good luck, bud!!! :)

LMAO!!! Gotta love SNL. Yeah, i guess youre right. I have wanted a tattoo, but i want it to be discreet. And they have actually paid for it already, lol. So maybe i just get my initials behind my ear or something huh. People...i live in Sweden...northern sweden to be precise. I need to go to a bigger town...70 miles from here, just to get an ordinary tattoo. Henna-tattos arent avalible anywhere near where i live, lol....part eskimo remember? #;O) Thanks for all your input though, mighthy appriciated.

Andreas sweety, u HAVE TO watch that video!!! It's SO exactly like that!!! I have 4 tattoos and if I had to do it again, I WOULD NOT!!! Don't do it just cos ur friends already paid for it! It's silly!! It's UR skin!!! If u change ur mind I'm sure they'll understand. ;) But hey, if u really thought this through.....I just hope u won't regret it later!! :)

soulofharmony ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 11:42 AM

andreas l agree with pascale.. and this is my thoughts nothing worse than a man reaching old age .. and a wrinkled tattoo, kinda like finding a old antique map..but saddly the treasure is long gone... my uncle hada tattoo well 3... now in he 50 he so regrets it...infact regretted for the last 20 years, plus his wife had two. Both live in regret.. But if you do go ahead have it in a discreet place, that can be hidden..DONT DO IT..

I don't have any tattoos (my wife has 2) but I've talked about it with friends before and the discussion of age always comes up... usually some reference to a 70-year-old woman seeing a doctor with her tattoo in a special place. While I agree it won't look the same (after that many years and with aging skin, etc.), to me it represents a period or time of one's life. For example, my wife has a unicorn on her shoulder. She's always loved unicorns and unicorn art. "The Last Unicorn" is one of her favorite movies. So, while it may look funny on her at age 70, I see no reason for her to be ashamed of it or embarrassed about it as she gets older. Just my 2-cents.

Damia ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 1:45 PM

I have to agree with chuck on this. If you get something that really means something to you, it won't matter what it looks like when you get old (unless it's not discreet). Put it somewhere no one will see it but you and your wife when you get old, and there shouldn't be a problem. At the same time, most people do regret the tattoo(s) after a time. You really need to spend some time and think about it hard. I have 2 tattoos...both of dragons. I love dragons. The one on my shoulder (you saw it in a thread a while ago) is big. It's been there for about 10 years, and even though it's not perfect, I still love it. I plan on having it worked on if I ever have the money. I got it shortly after I moved out on my own. The other one is on my stomach around my belly button. Everyone said don't do it because it will look bad later....well, I have had 2 kids since then and it doesn't look great, but I still love it. My mother bought it for me. Bottom line, they both are of something I will always love, and they both have meaning. So, I you have doubts, don't do it yet. If you can find something you love and put it in a good place, go for it! The smiley idea is perfect for you at this time in your life.....just like the LOTR elf font.....just think about how you might feel about them in another 20 years. :) It is your skin.....do what feels right for you. Now my book is at an end....sorry about the length....this is a topic I'm fond of. :)

(and there I was thinking I'd be all alone in my opinion...sniff...glad to see I'm not a complete weirdo!)

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 3:19 PM

It's not a question of how it will look when u'll get old to me! it's more a psychological thing! What u like at 29 is not the same at 50! U change tastes and ideas over the years and even though I still like 3 of my tattoos as far as the design goes, I still regret having had them done! I feel ridiculous having tattoos now and I'm only 34!! I made them when I was a kid (between 18 and 22) and I really don't see the point in it anymore! But as I said, if u really thought this through and DEEPLY want that tattoo, hell then, sure go for it! Cos in the end, even if u regret it later, it's definitely not the end of the world!! Only a minor nuisance really! ;)

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 3:22 PM · edited Tue, 25 October 2005 at 3:25 PM

I actually went to have them removed and man oh man!!! Having a tattoo's done, compared to having it removed, is a piece of cake!!! She could only do one laser point and that was it!!! It litterally tears ur skin open!! I'm keeping the bloody tattoos! :(

L8RDAZE ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 5:39 PM

Geez...y'know those friends of yours could of chipped in for some COOL camera stuff! (DOH!) I don't have a tat, thought about it, but... nahh...not for me! For some, its a very personal thing! In the end its up to YOU...just because they paid the money doesn't mean you have to get one!

RodsArt ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 7:00 PM

I used to design flash & give Tats, Take your time to think about what you really want.... When or if you do decide, Please take care of it, and it'll look great for many years. Ultraviolet light (sunshine) will change the color of inks to a greyish tinge under the 4 layers of skin. As we age our skin loses it's elasticity, giving it a warbled sometimes disfigured appearance. Finally, Anyone interested in getting one(or more), check out the artist's credentials, His Photo-Example book, and state health certificate. While looking at the Photos, also look for symmetrical placement, and line consistancy. Do your Home work.....It's worth the time.

Don't do it. PLEASE. You look good the way you are. Your friends aren't going to drop you for changing your mind. Find an artist friend who can put on a temporary one with vegetable dyes or something. I don't know if vegetable dyes work but there must be something out there that will either fade or wash off. I was in a car crash once and the back of my hand went along the road, the tarmac literally tatooed itself into my hand. I had to have plastic surgery to remove it. Vikings don't need tatoos!

I was gonna get one but I wanna see a 60 year one with one and what it looks like, coz that's what putting me off... Even if it's in a place that only my loved one can see I'll know it's there when it looks bad... But Z I'd say go from the smiley, you love them, you can design one and at would be leeker, but if you do get it, but do the arm this, it's so 'stupid male'...
