Taking a break from city building to do a sculputure pre-visualization for my ex-boss. He's been commissioned to do some glass sculptures for a newly completed building here in Bangkok, and has asked me to convert his scribbles into something a bit more realistic. Modeled in LightWave 3D 8.3. Not quite done. There's still the bit at the top I need to figure out. This piece is 4 meters tall. It will be constructed in glass and metal. There are 245 layers of glass to this sculpture... so far. :o) Actually I don't have to render anything realistic. He needs the 3D model to create the full size final piece. He uses my modeling to evaluate and tweak his sculpture design. Posted at the behest of my good buddy, blarghd. :o) Cheers! M

interesting,.. It'll be cool to see it as a model and as the sculture

Very cool! As an aside, the 3d model in wireframe could easily pass for a new speaker design. :)

Thanks guys. :o) I'll post an update when I get home tonight. One of the nicest utilities that comes for LightWave is the volume plug-in. It allows me to do a quick calculation based on the geometry to figure out how heavy this thing is. Very useful for a project like this. Cheers! M

I needed to model each piece of glass as these will be sent to a plotter (via DXF export) to generate the cutting list for each layer of glass. :o) Update above. :o) Cheers! M

That's insane....terribly cool....but insane. :) Neat update. Will the base be able to maintain the weight of that building though? ....hmmm looking, I guess it could with the support evenly spaced out like that. Anyway, kudos my friend, you have offically gone mad but we love ya anyway. Out of curiousity, how many polys are we talkin' here?

Only 16,062 polyons, Teyon. :o) I'm not entirely sure about the base, but I'm told that it will be bolted to the structure of the reflecting pond just under the surface of the water. The base plate will probably have to be wider for added stability. Thanks for your feedback. :o) Cheers! M the Mad
