Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
Though it doesn't happen as often since I installed the patch to 4.03 my Pentium 2 350 mhz and 256 ram Win98, it used to seem to freeze on me for extended periods of time... sometimes as long as 3-4 minutes.... but usually came back. Grumbling, but came back none the less. It usually occured when the system was looking for a texture that didn't exist or some such. We've all experienced these things from time to time and it normally involves d/ls that present a problem or a configuration set up. It might help if you can provide a bit of detail such as what you were doing that lead up to the failure.... the more experienced of us have prolly seen the same thing time and time again. I also noticed on my machine, that if I don't save regularly... the program errors on on me by performing an illegal action which ends the program. Pop an example or two at us and let's see what the troops come back with. Bill
I have similar problems with Poser 4.0.3 and the Pro pack. After working with either for so long, Poser just locks up, and sometimes locks my PC up as well. I talked to Tech Support today about it. I was using Norton CrashGuard, but I removed it since Tech Support said that it could be causing the problem. I am still having problems. I was told by Tech Support that this is a rare problem. They will not know about problems unless they are informed. Give them a call at (831)462-8902. This is the direct line to tech support. I plan on working with them until I get my problems solved.
I have had the problem ever since I installed Poser 4.0.2 maybe 4.0.1. but I think it was 4.0.2 it looks as though it got worse with 4.0.3, but in all fairnes I installed a new hardrive a 40gig maxtor (cool!) and 192 megs of ram so it could be some thing I didn for the differences I have seen in poser 4.0.3. I have given serous thought to going back to 4.0. to see if this would fix the problem. But I have it all set up the way I like so I don't think I will. Unfortantly I can not install 4 on my system twice with just 4.0 and 4.3 to compare to see if there is a difference. One thing I also noticed is after loading 4.0.3. Poser is much slower to work with. I find this surprising since I have gone from 64 megs of ram to 192. But in all fareness I work with slightly bigger models now. I have also been told that the name of the brand of your ram can affect this. I don't know about that though.
The biggest problem is with Poser 4.03 not overwritting older files. If you: 1.) BACK UP CUSTOM FILEs 2.)Unistall Poser 4 3.)Seek out the remaining folder and delete it. 4.)reinstall and patch before launch. It will be infinitely more stable. This could be a system limitation and not the installer. NOTE: Propack patches to 4.03 by itself. Patching Poser 4 and then 4.03 and then Propack has the older files issue. Be aware to that there are some OBJ's and custom figures with extra data (like empty group lines) Poser will have issues. Always test an issue with a standard library. Toddio
Things got worse for me when I upgraded my Compaq 550 Pentium with 128MEG to same machine with new mother board, AMD Athlon 1Gig processor and 384MEG memory. Now, with the new, faster hardware, Poser 4-0-3 manages to crash the computer, rather than just freezing the program. It does this with no particular repeatable operation within the program and completely at randem. My humble opinion is that it is yet another program bug which no amount of tweaking and fine tuning of our computers will remedy. It's certainly reassuring to know that these crash problems are "rare" according to the Poser techs! Yeah right! Didn't Firestone say the same thing?

Is it just me? Poser4 freezes often, sometimes locking up the computer, requiring a reboot. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, made sure no memory resident programs were loaded in the background, especially anti-virus programs.I am running a 1Gig processor with 368MB ram on Win 98 ver.2. Anyone else having this problem. Thanks.
