Subject: Upgrading to P6

lindans ( ) posted Thu, 17 November 2005 at 9:17 AM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 2:03 AM

I am contemplating upgrading from P5 to P6 but I see so many problems here with Memory and SR2 etc. I don't know whether to hang on. Is P6 so much different from P5?

There's a Poser 6 demo version. Why not give it a try before you buy? You can listen to endless conflicting and confusing opinions about P5 vs. P6 all day here and on other boards, but in the end, you have to try it yourself to see if you like it. If you can't download the demo for whatever reason, then I guess you're stuck with just opinions. My opinion would be to upgrade of course. P6 is a vast improvement over P5, with added functionality in the material room, lighting, and render control, to name just a few things. I never experienced a memory issue, but I know others have.

Lindians I'm gonna keep it brief. P6 is much improved over P5. It is the most solid and feature rich Poser that has ever been. Is it perfect? No. But I assure you that eF and others are working their tails off to make it the best it can be. Is it worth the upgrade? Imho without a doubt...yes. -jay

but I see so many problems here with Memory and SR2 etc. Not a very good test. People who dont have problems dont usually post that fact. My opinion: Upgrade. In my experience it is better, faster and more stable than P5. No, you cant turn all the options and get your multi figure render in 5 seconds, but it is still better than P5.

Don't buy into the hype just use what you have to make great art! I wouldn't buy P6 because the new figures suck so bad. Regardless of features the new figures with messed up hands & feet and lack of support for them in the face room shows how lame this upgrade is. Give e-frontier the message that this is not acceptable software ready for release and don't buy.

I pre-ordered P6 and while I have had problems with it since day 1 and have said it "sucks" many times, regarding memory issues, can't find texture etc., these have mainly been eradicated by the service packs. I thought I had an issue with SR2 but it turns out I didn't, it was an error on my part. So as far as upgrading; Yes absolutely! While it did suck from day 1 for a lot of people, the "BIG" issues have been sorted with the Service Packs and it is now worth getting and I dare say there will be an SR3 to sort out the few small issues that may still be there although at the moment I haven't seen any. thefixer, poser coord.

I was very wary of upgrading, because of all of the scare stories. In the end, I gave it a go and am really pleased that I did. With the addition of SR2, most bugs seem to be fixed, or to be able to be worked around, as thefixer says. The only two I can't seem to sort out are: 1. The inability to use Texture Filtering on big textures, even with 1.5 Gig of RAM - easy to work around, just switch it off. 2. The weird artifacts that happen on some hair eg sassy hair, after rendering - just get rid of them in postwork. Give it a go - I haven't regretted it. DigitalDreamer

No regrets going to P6 from 5. It is, in my case, MUCH more stable - in fact, I never thought I would say this about Poser - but it is almost a pleasure to use. JP

Bought P6 about 6 months ago and never had a problem, except for rendering one image, which for some reason rendered just dandy in P5. Never had the memory bug, never had a single error, crash or screwup. The SR2 problems never happened for me so far. Everything considered, it's a huge improvement over P5. No regrets at all.

The only problems I've had with P6 so far were my own doing. I skipped P5, because I was one of the unlucky few that it constantly crashed for. P6 on the other hand has remained very stable. I'm going to ditch my P4 runtimes soon and make the total leap to P6. As far as the P6 figures go... I mainly use (and support) the Daz figures, so it dosent affect me... the Stock figures do make good background filler though. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.
