Subject: Creating clothes from OBJ files

Alright, I need alittle help, Im new to poser, normally a Maya person, and here is the problem.. Im working with James hi res in Poser 6.. In Maya I created some Jedi Robes, and sized it down, saving it as a .OBJ file, and in several pieces I import the .obj files and can get it scaled to fit, but i was wondering how I can get it to conform properly to James I would be more than happy to share the robes with everyone, and would really love some help in getting them to become conforming for most of the male characters, and would love some help on this

Hmm...Geep probably has some tutorials on this but the method I use is with Phibuilder and UV mapper. First I import the mesh into poser and scale it accordingly (In this case I would scale it so that it looks ok when James is in zero postion.) After that I open UV mapper and create groups in the mesh that match James (rcollar. rforearm and so on..) and then in phibuilder set the hierarchy. After that open Poser and klick on the "convert hier file". Then it's a matter of adjusting the joints to match the host figure (the figure that clothing is supposed to conform to). Alternatively you could just slap on James's bones in the setup room. This is definetly not the best method but it's one that I am compfortable with. You could google Phibuilder and UV mapper, with these keywords you get some tutorials as well on creating conforming clothing. Nerd3d has a good tutorial as well. But perhaps the real gurus can help you out better. It's time consuming to create good clothing tho. Atleast it is for me.

If your mesh is reasonably equally scaled as far as the polys go (IE it is mostly contains similar-sized polygons, preferably quads or tris), then ignore conforming and go dynamic:-)

(BTW - you would have to re-attach the pieces - Dynamic clothing demands a single mesh..)

Addendum, unless you are working at VERY high output sizes, then using James hi-res is probably a waste of memory. Use the lo-res version 1st, to get everything right. Then substitute the hi-res version just before final render.. (don't forget to save the pose either in a library or in one of the "pose" dots...)
Quick rethought: Since you are more concerned with being able to distribute the mesh, as opposed to creating an image, then DEFINITELY go with lo-res James. (Posr is a memory hog..)

Another quicky here.. When I loaded it to try again, I get it resized to basically fit I do nothing else to it after that, just basically line it up as best I can as is I open Cloth, and select the "prop" and create a new group, I then go to make it collide against James Im not sure what else poser 6 requires to actually require it to drape correctly, infact for what I've gotten, I see NO result, or the " prop" vanishes now If anyone wants I'd be more than happy to send them the actual OBJ file, perhaps someone with abit more expereance in this particular program can tell me where Im going wrong, or what I may need to do/fix
