Subject: P6 Vs Dual Monitors...

Gareee ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 9:01 PM · edited Sun, 19 January 2025 at 11:46 PM

Ok, anyone else using dual monitors? P6 can "remember" where all the gadgets are, BUT it can't "remember" to open as a sizable window, an dstretch itself across both monitors. I can do it manually, but memorizing th ecurrent settings, and loading from previous settings doesn't cure it. Anything I missed ?

have you tried setting the windows up as you want them then setting that as default (like resetting to factory)? I have no probs with 6 having everything split between my monitors. except the Hirachy windows will Not open automatically.. I have also got each 'Room' remembering how I want it laid out over the monitors as well..

I use 2 monitors the same size 17 inch flat pannel. I use 1 monitor for tools and the other for working on my scean etc. When ever I open P6 it auto opens as I last used, I think this set up is in windows. Do you have a duel graphics card to connect your monitors as I have this set up. Rowlando

the monitorss are working fine, and poser remembers where the tools are on the second monitor, but it doesn't remember the I switched from full screen to window, and stretched the window to extend to the other screen. When I load, here's what happens: Poser loads in full screen mode, and the tools I moved to the other screen are missing. I switch to from full screen to window, and drag the window to the right edge of the other screen. once I do, the tools pop over there, where poser "knows" they should be, and all is fine. I have set this setup as "default" and I load from previous settings, not factory.

hmm my setup is I have poser on monitor 1 on monitor 2, I have the parameter dials, the library and python libs in the mat room, I have the shader nodes on monitor 2. if I get this right, you are stretching poser itself over the 2 monitors, not just grabbing the tool pallets and putting them over? (also - lets check in on vid cards here - running a Geforce FX 5200 here)

I'm running two monitors with no problems My library is in the 2nd monitor by itself. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

I use a Matrox Parhelia card with 3 monitors (17" left, 19" middle and 17" right). The card is set to stretch my desktop across all 3 monitors. I run with Poser's main window, camera controls, light controls, editing tools, document display tools, dials palette, joint editor, and all the tools specific to the hair room, cloth room etc on my left 17". On the right monitor I have my library and the material nodes window. The only down side of this is I have to dock the library window when switching to the material room otherwise I can't see the material nodes window. The library docks back to the right-hand side of the main Poser window on the left monitor but goes back to the right monitor when I undock & maximise it again. I use the middle monitor for the scene itself, and I have set the window size and location the same for the pose, material, hair and cloth rooms. It took me a long time to set all this up the way that I wanted it. When switching between rooms the tool palettes are all in exactly the same position. I find this helps because I don't have to remember more than one layout when switching rooms. Once I had finished getting everything exactly as I wanted it I did an 'Edit/General Preferences/Set Preferred State', and then copied the file ..Poser 6RuntimeprefsPoser UI Prefs_3072x768.xml to my backup folder (3072x768 is my desktop stretched across 3 monitors at 1024x768 each). If I ever change something inadvertantly I just copy this file back to the Poser directory and my UI is back to what I set it up as. I have no problems with Poser not liking or changing my setup between uses. I don't stretch any of the Poser windows across more than one window though so that may be your problem. Check the tools that came with your video card driver. The Parhelia Desktop Manager has the option to 'Save window positions' and I had to switch this off because it caused all sorts of problems, not just with Poser. UA

Ok, so you guys don't stretch the entire poser window over to the other screen, you just drag the tools and library over?

yup.. thats how I do it :)

Gareee ( ) posted Tue, 29 November 2005 at 8:13 AM

Ok, I'll adopt the same setup then. (That's what I did with Lightwave as well.)

I just started running two monitors without any problem!!;)

shedofjoy ( ) posted Tue, 29 November 2005 at 9:35 AM

I have a setup similar to Khai, except on the left monitor (in his image) i have the tools to the right of the screen, thus grouping all the tools together on the right (across two screens).

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

Gareee ( ) posted Tue, 29 November 2005 at 10:02 AM

Its kinda funny.. with Photoshop and lightwave, I just pu the tools on the right screen.. with poser, I expanded the window to both monitors instead. Wonder where that came from?

I expand Poser across both monitors -- I tend to create scenes using almost the full size of the main monitor. For this reason, I move the camera tools, libraries, etc. to the second monitor. To do this, I expand the window across both monitors.

And, yes -- I experience the same thing that you do. I have to manually stretch the window out each time that I open Poser. But as it's only a matter of a second or two to do so: I've never been much concerned over the matter. Frankly, I don't know if there's a way to "fix" the problem.

Well, something I didn't like, was the animation strip, and the tabs would be split between screens. I duplicates the setup of th picture posted, and that seems fine. The heierchy windows won't remember it's place, but that's no biggie, and I usually move it around anyway.

What's irking me right now is: I am running Poser6 on one monitor for the moment, but it is a 24" LCD in wide format...and while the animation dope sheet will expand left/right as much as needed, the graph editor WON'T, or at least I don't know how to make it "go wide." That is driving me nuts. ::::: Opera :::::
