Hmm. DAZ has a new pricing gimmick:

"On the first day of the release you can pick up Nybras for 90% off! It will then be reduced to an 80% discount for the second day, a 70% discount for the third day, and so forth until it gets down to a 30% discount, where it will remain for the rest of the two week introductory period."

am I the only person who can not access either Daz or Poser Pro's today?

Of course, a base figure... full of add-on and expansion packs and etc... ...but its a deal. Purchased. The demon is very nice. With some touchs in MaterialRoom he has an awesome look :)

I had Daz up for later purchase of cutsie Nybras and just now tried to do something, but, as stated, dead as a doormouse. :( ETA: Does this mean that we still get the 'one day only' pricing if we are unable to purchase because their site is in the great hereafter waiting for resurrection?

It's 11:41 pacific time, and I can't access Daz either.

Daz was up and working for me earlier, but I went to look something up just now and I got a page with a ton of SQL errors on it.

Me too. I emailed them, but Daz is dead!

Oops... I suppose the access to the server is overloaded. I purchased Nybras okay, but in the process all the page was in only text mode, the icons had dissapeared and I had troubles to find where I needed to check... but finally done

Looks like DAZ had some serious technical difficulties last night. I bet people are irate. Not just this one-day deal, but they had a couple of contests ending at midnight (DAZ time) last night.

According to the newsletter the demon does include a low-resolution texture - I don't have it yet, so not sure if it should be pre-applied or if there's a mat file.

Now all we need is a Sadaam Hussein character mesh and we can recreate Famous Scenes from South Park.

I was able to purchase it a few minutes ago and paid with PayPal right away. But Daz hasn't received my payment yet, so I can't download. EDIT: Took some minutes, now it works....

Yes, it looks as though things are working now. It is a pretty good deal, even with having to pay for the morphs pack (pretty standard DAZ 3D there). I know there are differences in detail, but doesn't anyone else think there are better inspirations than DOOM!.

An unexpected choice of locales, but I think it had to do with the polygamy thing. (kidding, kidding...) I had the same thought Randy but I kinda like that it's "out of season." Sort of a nice antidote to all the cute Christmas stuff that we're about to be inundated with.

I couldn't resist. Too cheap to pass up. The expansion and Brutus texture weren't too expensive. Plus I got the only other thing I had on my DAZ wishlist. Regarding Nybas. I hate to be the resident vulgarian but isn't he missing something? I thought all demons were suppose to have large and grotesque genitalia. Any way to add some wedding tackle to the poor boy or is that why he is always in a bad mood?

I wonder how soon before we see a female morph pack? I'd love to get him, but I can't afford it. :(

There is a female version (sans nipples and genitalia it seems) and a smaller "baby" demon in the expansion pack. 2 bucks for the main pack and $11 something for the expansion. Seemed too good to pass up even though this type of character doesn't usually float my boat.

I have no reason to claim expertise, but the whole imagery of demons is a lot more varied than this, or other figures, suggests. The morph expension does do something about the feet, and add a few possibilities, but there's a lot more which could be used. As has been suggested, there's the grotesque genitalia, not that I'd expect DAZ to sell a vagina with teeth. Less controversially, different feet such as bird-like (with really big claws), perhaps using the same ideas as the A3Horse freebie, rather than a whole new figure. There's various alternative horn-props out there. And it would be quite traditional to use different heads, far less humanoid. It's not just an Egyptian thing. Imagine something with a horse's head, a meat-eating, fire-breathing, horse with horns. {Yes, I had toasted cheese for supper last night.) And, on the other side of this whole Demon business, where's the BFG? (I don't object to DOOM...)

I bought the base figure. I wasn't particularly interested when I saw the promos, but at less than $2, why not? I used a voucher that was expiring soon anyway. Didn't buy any of the add-ons or textures. I figure the low-res texture plus the Material Room will be enough. I like looking at monster figures, but rarely render them.

Sheesh, is EVERYONE "family friendly" (read "sanitized for your mentation")? It would have been more historically accurate to add such things. How about a morph to put a secondary head where the tail is? Lest someone think I am a really sick individual look at some of the older depictions of demons in woodcuttings and paintings. Are there really a lot of children using Poser and the various sites to purchase stuff. Wouldn't using a credit card mean they had to be an adult? Or were impersonating one and that is on them or their parents?

If somebody wants to provide the weirder sexual demonology, good luck, but I don't blame DAZ for avoiding that. This one is, however, rather ordinary as demons go. Still, that's an opportunity to sell more add-ons.

I don't think it's really DAZ's fault. The credit card companies and PayPal are really cracking down. Not out of morality, but because they're losing money. A lot of porn operators are scammers, selling "memberships" then taking off with the money. And a lot of porn customers claim fraud and do chargebacks (often after their spouse sees the charge on the credit card bill).

The rather heavy-handed way the credit companies and PayPal are dealing with this problem is to crack down on "porn" sites. Which they are defining as any nudity that's not of historical interest. PhilC had his PayPal account frozen because he had an image of a wireframe naked Posette on one page (for a tutorial). Wireframe, mind you. They made him put fig leaves over the naughty bits.

I wasn't going to sell it to them, but caved for quick Christmas Money. I didn't even know it was going to be the base for an official expansion until I saw it for sale! LOL! There are some great expression morphs, and additional erc posing built into the body. Check out the links I posted in the thread over there with the animation tests for the erc wink and run poses. The expansion pack is a great deal, since you get my whole morph set, 2 high res textures, and a handful of poses. Grab em while they're cheap. Heck, i even made a Van helsing Baby Vampire from the morphs and the figure for IgoHigh!
