i should've just trashed this image, but instead i did a bit of playing. i know this extreme photo-manip is not very good, but i kinda had fun playing and making him look a bit like a cartoon. :) is focus a daily struggle for anyone else? p.s. this is kyle, a kid...er...young adult...we work with at the restaurant. :)

OOOOOH!!!! AWESOME SHEILA!!!! Not very good? Are you nuts woman??? This effect is totally wicked. Looks like its fetched from an issue of Computer Arts magazine. How did you do that? And yup...focusing is a daily struggle for me as well. I never seem to be able to focus on anything but RR while im at work, lol. #:oP

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Cindy, i think regular film SLRs focus so much better. You know...it's like you're like thru binoculors or something. you can really see where your focus is it. with my digi cam, you're not actually looking thru the lens...makes it harder to tell if you're focused right...at least for me anyway. this was automatic focus, which i use most of the time. In this case, i'm the one who failed...not my cam. i've never tried DSLR before. Andreas, i just played with trying to turn this into like a painting and then a sketch. and then layered it with the original, played around with properties. Then i did more layering, and more layering. then some selective sharpening i think. hahaha! dunno. i was just being silly. :) doug, i kinda like the original too, but i wanted his face to be in focus. Arrrrggg! Yeah, that glow is distracting. Kort...thanks! :) i was just trying to have a bit of fun after seeing how i screwed my image up. i don't plan on keeping it though. richard, i gotta run out real quick...soon as we get back i'll check out that thread. Thanks! :) thanks for the feedback guys. :)

keep the image? but i'm just not all that happy with it. i had fun playing with it though. wish it looked better. what new light, cindy? can you give me a hint? when you have time will you give me an idea about how to work this into a pleasing image?????? no hurry. :) you guys made me laugh. thanks! :)

cynlee ( ) posted Fri, 02 December 2005 at 3:31 PM

stick your mind in the gutter dear & you'll see.. let's see.. ok.. just throwing some ideas out i might go with an softer focus.. or reverse the imagery.. selectively blurring the furthest away & leaving as much detail as you already have to the face.. of course the whole image will no longer be as sharp.. or use some transitional selective color, tricking the eye.. going from b&w moving forward into color or!!! he would look pretty cool cut out & stuck on another picture of a drink with a straw.. sticking him on the straw! ..just off the top of my head :]

I didn't want to make a full thread out of this Sheila, so I thought I'd stick this photo in here. I figured you might appreciate it. Recognize my buddy there? :) Taken at Dragoncon 01 or 02...can't remember which, lol.

Have to feel you pain cos I remember when I had the Minolta A1 prosumer, I waited for the beep....lol, and again, really was not quite sure where the main focus would be!!!!! DSLR is so much better in respect.

tvernuccio ( ) posted Sat, 03 December 2005 at 2:04 PM

Kort, gasp WHAT??????????? Of COURSE i recognize him!!!! How in the world did you get to meet him????? What's Dragoncon 01 or 02? Oh man, what a THRILL that must have been to not only meet him but to also take your picture with him!!!!! Cindy, in the gutter, eh??? You're so silly!! :) thanks for the ideas!!!! Those are GREAT! i am so totally NOT in any kinda of creative mode at the moment, but i'll put this on the backburner for a rainy day!!! thanks!!! :) JimbO, reckon you're right about DSLR. But i will have my cam for awhile so i will do the best i can. :)

cynlee ( ) posted Sat, 03 December 2005 at 2:09 PM

tvernuccio ( ) posted Sat, 03 December 2005 at 2:20 PM

LOL! did you ever watch that Sci-Fi series called Farscape, Cindy??? I don't know this guy's name, and i can't remember his character name either (me and my sucky memory), but he was one of the main characters for several seasons. oh, kemal said his character name is Crais. :) Kort...kemal and i were just watching the 6-hour movie the other day (again for like the 3rd time). do you realize i've fallen asleep every damn time we watch it??? Ooooh that makes me so mad!!! I STILL dunno how it ends!! well, perhaps in a few days we'll pick up where i started falling asleep! :)

cynlee ( ) posted Sat, 03 December 2005 at 3:10 PM

yes! i remember that show.. watched it for a bit quite a ways back.. ah well, a celebrity!! :]

tvernuccio ( ) posted Sat, 03 December 2005 at 11:58 PM

cool, Cindy! yeah, we were SO mad when they ended that series!! we're never been much into watching television, but we always LOVED Farscape and a few other shows on the Sci-Fi channel. after they cancelled Farscape, we pretty much just stopped watching television. anyway, now Kort you have me really curious! do you have any OTHER celebrity photos you're holding back??? Did you get to see & meet the rest of the actors from the show?

Hey why not give it a soft focus in PS.

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

Attached Link: FarScape

He was a major character in the Farscape series, Captain Bialar Crais, and also the voice of the ships pilot. He was a neat guy and fun to talk to AND a native New Zealander. :)
