Subject: Preferred state not staying....

I know that I saw how to do this somewhere, but can't remember where. I loaded the third patch to poser and now, my preferred state, isn't staying what I set, It doesn't go back to the factory state either. The window is the right size, but the controls are in the factory state. How do I make them stay where I put them.....

If you have updated to 4.03 then it has made a shortcut to Curios labs in your start menu, point it back to the metacreations folder, and all will be well. I ran a search on this forum for preferred state and there is some more detailed information int he old archives if you need it.

Thanks that did it... You would think that Curious Labs would have spotted this before and did something about it. Not a serious problem, but a very annoying one!

I have the same problem...how do I "point it back to the metacreations folder" ??? Thanks

What I did was to delete the poser shortcut on my desktop. Then create another short cut by using the taskbar menu and then browsed for metacreations folder in the program folder. Then cut and pasted the shortcut and it works! hope this helps

My shortcuts to Poser are pointing to the Meta Creations folder already, otherwise they wouldn't work...evidently, I'm missing something here cause I don't see what the shortcut to the program has to do with the preferred state file...which I opened and there's no path listed in it but it has version 4.01 at the top when I'm using 4.03...???

Ok, try this Go to the start menu and use the remove to remove any curiouslab folders or shortcuts, then use the add button to make a new link to meta creations. As I understand it, the shortcuts bring up the poser window from the 4.03 and not the actual poser that sits in the meta creation folder....

I guess I'm just brainless or something...LOLOL..because I still don't get what this has to do with the "preferred state" not saving correctly...all my shortcuts to Poser have the correct path.....but that doesn't make it save the preferred state correctly...I still have to use UI Dots to get the workspace in place....Butch, I don't see how you fixng your shortcuts got it to save the preferred state correctly... "C:Program FilesMetaCreationsPoser 4Poser.exe" Oh well, I give up...LOL

I don't know. Maybe your problem isn't the same as mine. I would check with Curious Labs and see what they have to say. I am not a software expert by any means and the fix I used is one that I got from the 'rotic site. Keep plugging away, somebody knows somewhere how to fix it. I post the same orginal message everywhere that I could and got replies from all the sites that I posted to, and tried them all to get the right one. I would check with curious labs though. They have the experts.

Dizzie, i have the same problem, but i use 4.02, not 4.03, trying ditching the preferred state stuff, it gets corrupted and reloading it, i did that once and it helped, but only in the fact that it made me able to at least try save a preferred state without an error message

heyas; it's not where the shortcut is pointing, its where the 'startup' directory is pointing. the shortcut points to wherever your poser.exe file is. there's also another shortcut property that tells it what directory to use as its home base. check that setting. if it's pointing to somewhere else, that's why it can't find its preferred starting state.
