Subject: Getting textures on Dystopia cityblocks

gannon ( ) posted Sun, 11 December 2005 at 9:06 AM ยท edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 8:50 PM

I downloaded the Dystopia cityblocks from Freestuff on this site. As most here probably know, the textures are in a separate folder in the download. In Vue 5 Esprit, I import a block then save it as a .vob. In Vue, the block.vob is grey, no materials.

How do I get the textures/materials on the Dystopia blocks in Vue? The texture folder consists of 26 different jpgs. The Dystopia blocks import as one object, and am I able to get one material on the block using the color map in the Basic Material editor(say only concrete, but not windows, roof, etc.) Am I correct in saying that because the Dystopia blocks import into Vue as one object, I am only able to apply one material and not any of the other 25? Or is there a work-around? I know this has been covered before, but I just can't get it to work (still in process of learning the program).

TIA

If you import them through Poser (as I believe the free one's are only in Poser format) you should be able to get the textures to load correctly too- I think. It's been a while since I used those particular blocks. If you are importing the OBJ's- then you need to have Vue UN-GROUP the OBJ's and display the individual material assignments- then you have to apply the materials manually.

I don't have Poser, so, oh well. :-)

Also, I don't think a block can be ungrouped in Vue, at least I've not seen anyway to do it.

Try downloading the LW Dystopia city blocks. I think there are some free ones (I got some anyway, they prompted me to buy the rest). I think if you ditch the bump maps in Vue they look reasonable.

I downloaded some of those cityblocks for testing.Indeed, they are for Poser so the information about textures and materials is not in the obj-file. Could you try to take them into (free) DAZ Studio? And see what happens? I am not too familiar what DS can read, but i guess that might be a chance.

The free Light Wave models & textures are available here: http://www.axeman3d.com/models7.htm

Recent thread here on DAZ Studio mentioned that exporting from DAZ to VUE doesn't work well, and I'd rather work with the blocks in VUE.

Not quite sure what is meant by importing into a media viewer.

Thanks though for all the suggestions.
