A few weeks back, while working in photoshop my stylus started going haywire..jumping all over the screen, dynamics were only working part of the time etc. I replaced the battery in my pen, moved the usb thingie, and then proceeded to order a new pen thinking maybe that was the problem. Now I have a brand new pen, and it is still doing the same thing. Im so frustrated and have no idea what is causing this. Could it be a memory problem, or is it the tablet itself? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks...Laura

Just shooting in the dark, did you check the drivers. Download the latest drivers and reinstal them :) Tihomir

Only a suggestion, but could there be a problem with your mouse? Lou.

do you only use the stylus in PS?? or a better question would be, does it also seem "jumpy" in other programs??
if it's only wonky in PS then i'd toss my PREFs file. sometime your preference file in PS gets corrupted and make the app act all wonky. tossing the file (a new one is rebuilt next time you launch PS) often clears up your problem...

BUT, if the stylus is acting stupid and jumping around the screen even when you're out on the desktop and not even in PS, then it could be a driver issue or you getting "mixed" signals from both the mouse and the stylus.

While the stacked magnets in the computers do eventually wear out, or get exposed to magnetic flux from other devices or even a thunder storm or static electricity, there are some other things I would check before I went to re-initialize your disk by F-Disk (PC Only). They would be:

Have you added or do you have a router.

Did you get a new cordless phone,

Satellite Dish Controller,

Break out tr he Fluke Meter and check the ground on your house,

But, most importantly of all, take your pen, stylist, and drivers, and try them on a friends computer, or a computer at a repair shop. If they work there, but not on your machine, then start looking for other things listed above, or consider re-initializing your HDD making sure to wipe the File Allocation Table(s) by removing the primary DOS Partition before you format the disk.

I would go with what retrocity said, mixed with the last of what cryptojoe said.... that's why I pointed at the mouse... I don't use an optical mouse for the simple reason that they are "flaky"... you can be pointing at something, and suddenly have the cursor somewhere else on your screen.... for no known reason. the styli come in two types... optical..... registers the screen raster, and tablet, which is a positional feedback from the tablet itself. which type are you using? One thing you might look at, after testing on a different system, would be the Report Rate.... too slow, or too fast can have a similar effect. Lou. P.S. I find it really hard to believe that your HDD would be the culprit.

Have you recently moved your computer from one area of the home/office to another? Do you have a cordless phone? See if you have any dead area's around your computer when it is on, like static interference.

Even if your computer has not been moved or the outlet where it's plugged in at has not been changed, try moving it to another part of the house.

The thing on the HDD is a last resort, sectors/kernels go bad, from time to time, it has to do with the magnet technology and how they've been stacked since 1999. A portion of the problem is that aluminum is a Diamagnetic Material and the industry is just coming to grips with this issue. Magnets do eventually wear out, the smaller they are the faster they wear. Sometimes simply wiping the disk will regain sectors. If there is a bad kernel (may show its corrupt but there is no virus) simply formatting the drive will not solve the problem, you must remove the primary DOS Partition (yes I know windows doesn't have dos the term still lives on though)which forces the system to re-initialize the disk drive by formatting the cylinder where the FAT resides. Formatting the drive alone will not remove the FAT and if that is where the problem resides, you won't fix the problem.

Please pardon me if I sound defensive or offensive, I need a memory upgrade from the beta version of Human 1.2 to 4.0 or higher, and possibly an new mother board.

Guess thats what I get for using freeware huh?

LOL

One thing it MIGHT be.... This mappens to mice (?) mouses (?)... if you have more than one Infra red (cordless) device hooked up to your sys, try going back to corded devices... the keyboard, etc. they SAY that they won't interfere with each-other, but it does happen regularly. Lou.
