Hey All, I am a user of Carrara studio and I do architectural illustrations . In the past I have used Poser 3 to create the people that go in my architectural renderings. I currently can't load Poser 3 on my main machine because I think it has to much memory(1gb ram) so I can't use Poser 3 anymore. I was wondering if Daz studio will work out for me so I have a couple of questions. 1. How many different types of people or figures do you get with Daz studio. 2. What about clothing , is there a nice variety of clothing for each figure. 3. Is it easy to change figure shape,color and size. To get the figures into my renderings I usually just render the figure,save as a jpeg and mask out the background and paste just the figure into the rendering. Modeling clothing shouldn't be a problem for me but I was thinking of this saving me some time if Daz has a fair amount of clothing, figures etc. Any help is appreciated and I am going to the Daz site to find out what I can. MMmmmm... I thing Download the Free Daz 1.0 and try it all out. It's Free so why not get it an play with it.

Downloading large files is the problem I would be facing if I tried to download daz right now , when I have a faster than dial up connection I will download it. Mike

D|S comes with a low-resolution version of Victoria 3 (and the full versions of V3 and Michael 3 are currently free from DAZ). However, if you install Poser 3 you should be able to use it's content in D|S just fine (certainly files from Poser 4/ProPack load correctly, and Poser 5 and 6 files as long as they don't use features added after ProPack). The bare application is about 11MB, I think - the content comes to about 60, but there's a low-bandwidth option that splits it into five parts.

To add some.... If you find yourself liking Studio, DAZ also offers Mike 3, Victoria 3, and Aiko 3, without their morph packs, for free. Also, there is a great variety of free clothing you can use. You can use most Poser clothing in DAZ|Studio, with the exception of dynamic cloth and hair. Basically, anything you can use in Pro Pack, you can use in Studio ;)

ok, new post because it's too late to edit, LOL. You also want to check the read me files of all freebies you download. Some you can use for commercial renders, some you can't. So, you'll want to double check the readme's and maybe organize your runtime into "ok for commercial use" and "no commercial use", in case you had that in mind ;).

Thanks for the comments , I am a Poser dummy, I know very little when it comes to Poser. Are you saying I can load clothing from the Poser 3 cd into daz studio without installing Poser 3 on my computer. I will be downloading Daz tomorrow and see what is in the Free 3d content scenes. Hopefully it is similar to the standard people and clothing that came with Poser 3, if so I will be all set . Thanks.

You'd ned to install Poser 3 to get the Runtime folder (so if it's the installer that won't run you'd be out of luck, unless you can transfer the Runtime folder from an old machine) but you don't have to run the Poser 3 application - D|S should read the content files on its own.

You don't really get much content with D|S. It isn't hoggy either and easy to use. With the free figures keep in mind you will probably need to buy the head and body morphing kits for each chararcter. Then will also need textures. However, with the kit you can find textures fairly cheap. I suppose you can also make your own. Haven't seen alot of free clothing, but haven't looked everywhere either. Fairly new to D|S myself. Don't use poser. DAZ sells content. So everything is built with that in mind.

Lots of good suggestions posted - best thing I think is just get it and try it - it's free so you won't be losing anything if you don't like it.There is soooo much free stuff out there. I don't have a big budget so everything I use at the moment is free, and most of that is Poser stuff. There are many many sites out there and you can get all sorts of stuff from props and sets to skin textures to clothes and hair. Just take a look at the Poser Free stuff section on this site as a start, and Daz have a freebie section too.
