Take a look at some incredible free models rendered in VUE...

Very cool! Y'know, I've visited there before, but I hadn't realized they were using Vue! Thanks for the tip! :)

His models have stunning details, and are highly accurate, as I am a model buff of WW-II aircraft. The P-40 is especially great and true vintage Flying Tigers era... Also shows that VUE isn't just for kids (heh-heh). It has the power to render professional 3D models...

Wow! Thanks for sharing this!

My own simple and quick render., of the P 51--This model is just TOO cool to be free, but free it is! Sometimes, peoples' generosity really amzes me, especially in this gimmee, gimmee society. Nevertheless, Fox-Mulder wasn't kidding-- this is high quality stuff, and you can bet it'll be finding its' way into a Vue scene or two of my own real soon. Thank you, Fox-Mulder-- you have no idea--- my step-dad is also a big fan of WW II memorabilia and the pic I'm planning for him will be very much enjoyed. :)

Oh yeah.. I forgot to mention--- it's certainly not just THIS--- there are Indy cars and other WW II planes---all in all GREAT stuff!

Wait until you see Spike's new Leather Helmet and Googles for P4 Male/Female. Finally, some really classic headgear for pilots, race car drivers and motorcycle characters... She will be selling it, but says it won't be expensive...

Spike is a she?? =:o Great image, Mike! The model is quite exceptional. :)

BTW Mike, Is it possible to assign a blurring motion to the spinning prop? I assume you made a disc about %70 transparent- but how about actually using the real prop as an animated/blurred object in a still scene. I think VUE can do it... Also, this, if it works, could give you the additional effect of the white-tips of the props as a blurred effect. (Prop tips were usually painted so people would be less likely to walk into them- something that would ruin your day...)

Fox-Mulder ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 4:29 AM

Actually I see now that the modeler included the disc in the aircraft model- so there is no prop to spin and blur...

Yeah, I was surprised about that, F-M. I did nothing to it, other than unzip all the files to the same folder. I checked it out in 3D Exploration first, and saw all the textures loaded, so I simply loaded ythe 3DS file into Vue, messed with the atmosphere, lighting and camera for about 3 minutes, then rendered it, and this is how it turned out. It's actually the first 3DS model I've gotten taht already had textures applied, and worked the way it should have, so hats off to him for THAT as well! I'm going to be looking into all the materials and textures for this thing--- just to see if there's anything special happening, along the lines of transparencies and what not.

NOT knocking Bryce here, but this is how it looks rendered in Bryce 4. Just like in Vue 3, I did nothing to this pic other than load the model, and set the lights, and render it. Vue seems to have handled the default settings on at least the propeller better. :) Oh and yes, I agree--- walking into a prop WOULD ruin one's day! Every year they have this massive WW II airshow in Kissimmee Fla--- afew years ago I went to it with my Mom and step-dad--- had a blast, I tell you--- i mean, I saw more cool planes that day than ever before at any on place at any one time---real, genuine aircraft, and all still working! I thought one of the coolest things was those pinups that the pilots would have airbrushed o the nose---and of course, their kill record too, was pretty interesting. Of course, it's a pretty morbid subject, from a bad time in history, but interesting nonetheless.

Fox, What the heck?! You must spend all your time looking for free models, you seem to know the locations of all the awesome looking stuff! Good call! They look great! Thanks for the heads up!

Every time I see anew post here by Fox-Mulder, I KNOW it's gonna be something good!

Fox-Mulder ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 5:22 PM

It's my way of contributing something back to the Renderosity community, since I am not a model-maker. So many great models by so many great and generous people. Being a 3D model and software nut, I like to give something back by way of providing links- (I use RoadRunner, so that helps me move around...)

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 5:59 PM

Down below this thread, two or three, you'll find a thread for URLs of great places to get models. Feel free to add a bunch to it! :) :: hint hint nudge nudge ::

...on that website? Quote: "...weve been working on projects with: ...www.e-onsoftware.com (preset objects for Vue dEsprit 4)" Vue d'Esprit 4, eh? THIS, should be good! :)

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 15 March 2001 at 2:26 AM

I hadn't noticed...but, WOW! I have to say I'm not exactly thrilled with the models that came with Vue 3.1----they're OK, in varying degreees from useless to very good, but I've only so far found a use for a couple of them.. BUT, if that company will be behind the models for Vue 4---well there's another thing to look forward to... As if we needed another!
