Fran... You want to have a different icon show up for the file type .mat, right? In Windows Explorer, go to any folder with a .mat file in it. Right click on the file, then select properties. Near the top is an option that says "Opens with". You'll see the icon you don't like next to it. Click on the Change button. From there, select Bryce since you want to associate it with all the .mat files. If you don't see Bryce listed, you can browse for it. After picking Bryce, click Okay. Then, Apply, and Okay once again. Clear as mud? ~ Nevanna ~
I don't have "Open with" either. Bryce will open mat files okay and use them - it's just that I'm fed up with those rotten table icons.

Fran (and others) - If you just want to change the icon for a particular file type, do the following: (1) Open any folder. (2) Go to Tools -> Folder Options (3) Click on the File Types tab (4) Find the mat file format (5) Click Advanced, to bring up the "Edit File Type" dialogue box. (6) Click "Change Icon" (7) Try locating the bryce exe file, and selecting that. Most program executables have one or more icons embedded. (8) Choose the new icon (9) Click Ok, Ok, Close (that should get you back to the folder view). (10) Click View -> Refresh (just in case, shouldn't be necessary. Unfortunately I'm not on my main computer at the moment, so I can't check to see if Bryce does have the right icons embedded, but the instructions will work on XP (possibly NT and others).

Erlik, " Phil, Fran, try with Shift+Right mouse click and proceed as Nevanna says." When exactly do I "right click"??? I've tried right click, left click, upsidedown peppermint click - nothing, nada, zilch...

I've got the advanced button on XP Home SP2, it could have something to do with administrator access or something...

That's a good point that didn't occur to me. I do have Administraator rights on my computer.
Fran, if there are more accounts on your computer, maybe you should log in as Administrator and then try changing things in File Types.
In that case, when you click on Edit for open, everything should be as it's on my screenshot. In Application used to perform action, it should be
"C:Program FilesDAZBryce 5.5Bryce55.exe" "%1"
together with the quotation marks and the space between. Memory like... the thing... with holes... :-) Take care in case the path to your Bryce is different. It has to be absolutely correct.

I AM an administrator, the word "Advanced" appears on anything else, but not on the bryce mat file.
And yes, it IS XP Pro... If you tell me what to do "in the Registry" I'll see if my husband will do it for me... I don't trust me.

How do I find the shiny red icon that used to appear on all .mat files? I had the dratted "MicroSoft Access Table" icon take over - well I've removed Access now but the Bryce ".mat" icon hasn't come back and I dont know where to look for it. I did a search for ".ico" but there seems to be absolutely NO ICONS on my laptop at all... since the search didn't find any. Also, how do you actually insist that WinXP uses the icon you want it to use rather than the beastly Access icon? Help?
