Kinda wanted to make sure. I'd been using PKZip since Win95 days, then updated it recently --- and that sucker actually stopped at the end of the demo period! I could not find the original DL for the prior version so could not reinstall. Don't want to fall for that trick again and would rather just keep using my current WinZip version if v10.0 pulls the same gag. Anyone actually passed 45 days on v.10.0?
If you don't register it, you can still use it, but it rifles through all of the days you have had it on your computer before it will give you a zip button. After you have been using it awhile, it becomes really annoying having to wait for it to finish going through the "days on your computer archive". Also, the "zip" and "unzip" buttons move around each time you use it. So it might be in the middle once, and then on the left the next time. The older program (a few versions back), still allow you to use them too without having to wait for the archive to be run through.

You should simply buy it as "demo" means that you may try it for a limited time. Much noise is made here when some vendor finds his/her work being on another site by someone else. people lose their membership because they use some pixels that were created by someone else. Everyone here agrees this is the way to go. And you do the same. You use a demo long after it expired. So either buy it, or buy another app (or XP) that can do the same.
I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

IZArc is another freeware archive utility which includes RAR and GZ support amongst many others. There's little you can do to add features to something like that; WinZip 10 doesn't seem to have an awful lot to recommend it over one of the earlier versions.Quote - Fortunately with XP you don't need Winzip ;)
I've been able to unzip files with the built in unzipping feature in XP, but can you zip files too? I would like one program that can deal with both .rar and .zip files. I can't stand having multiple programs on my computer that do almost the same thing. One thing I like about Winzip over Winrar is that if a zip file has corrupt files in it, it will flag them and still allow you to continue. I've found that if a .rar file has some corrupt files in it, that you can't get any of the files out. At least I've never been able to.

I use the built in "zip" program (whatever it's called) in XP for all of my .zip files, and I haven't had anyone complain that they can't open them yet ;).

Alladin software has a program called Stuffit that can do rar's, I believe (shows up on a Google search, as I remember) I think it even does zips as well. There's a free version, but you may have to hunt a bit..

I bought 8.0. I was suppose to get the next version free, but I never could get it to accept the reg number. I started using a couple different programs. 7Zip is the latest I just heard of. I tried WinRAR, but I did not care for its interface (of the version I tried) I am not sure if stuff was disabled or if it was just a wonky version. I also tried Weapons and I liked that but I reinstalled it recently and can no longer get it to handle anything other than RAR? XP's version seems a bit clunky to me, and it seems you have less control than with WinZip.

Was going to DL the new verion 10.0, but don't want to get bagged. Do you still just get a nag screen or does it really quit at the end of the 45 day demo period?
