Subject: How do I fix this?

I've been having a problem with the floor in this render. Before I render, it looks fine, but every time I render the pic, the floor ends up looking 'broken'. The hallway is one piece, and I've raised it up as much as I can without cutting off the figure's feet. Any ideas? thanks, ithkinlore

..not sure what's going on here... is it supposed to be a solid color? what are its materials, what are your render settings, etc.

It does look like a texture issue to me. Before I could make any suggestions I would need to know more info on Poser version. You could try using another texture(it doesn't matter what it is)just to see if you get the same results when rendered.

Hi ithkinlore,

Nice pic.

Try using a one sided square for the floor.

Two sided squares usually look "ok" unrendered but may appear "broken" when rendered if the opposite sides have different material (or colors).

Or ... make both sides of the square the same material (color).

your texture is not supported try saving your texture over again and reapplying it, try a different format too.
Looks to me like your texture has compression encoded information that poser is not processing too well, try saving the texture without any compression and see if it works.

I suspect Dr. Geep is right (as usual). The hallway you are using may have been made for Poser 4/PP, which doesn't handle backwards polys the way P5 and P6 do.

If you're using Poser 6, try clicking "normals forward" for the floor. (It's in the Material Room.)

If you're using P5, try adding a small amount of displacement to the floor.

Hey, all. I tried messing around with it tonight. Dumbest thing. You know what worked? I upped both transparencies on the floor, and it smoothed it out in the render. Now I need someone to explain to me why it worked. If it helps, I use Poser4 ProPack. The sci-fi corridor is by Joe Kurz, and he used a single JPEG on the whole piece. I was able to single out the floor and mess with it that way. Thanks for all your advice, fellow renderers. See you in the galleries! ithkinlore

I think ithkinlore means both the transparency and the falloff settings.

Actually, there are 'preview' settings and individual settings for each part of the hallway. I upped the transparencies for the floor preview to about 50%, then 100% for the actual floor. I think that I was so excited about it working that I forgot to explain myself better! Thanks again, ithkinlore
