There's a link there to a thread where a bunch of RR regulars posted pics of themselves. It's something like two or three years old...and except for you Cindy, and maybe one other person,I've never heard of any of them.I suggested to Doug that he update/replace it with that thread we did this past summer,(with all our pics in it).At least those people are still around...Well,most of them, lol. ;^) But I realise what seems a simple suggestion to me is never just a simple thing for you guys.I know that.So thank you for all you guys do.And I'll shut up now, lol. ;^)

that's the Resource Center you're referring to now.. the best thing to do there is grab the tuts & articles we want & archive the rest.. which MichelleA, our past mod, did a great job on before we added all these other activities & the photo membership exploded.. it just gets confusing having it there at all.. too much in it to change Doug & I would like to see what will be available with the new PHP conversion coming within the next 2 months that we can use to make our job easier then waste a bunch of HTML time on making new web pages for something is rarely looked at.. sorry to say..

LostPatrol ( ) posted Tue, 03 January 2006 at 1:06 PM

Cant remember last time I went to the community, I do visit the resource center on occasion. All this takes allot of time and effort, and to be fair the Mods and coords have their work cut out as well as having a life of their own. TBH though I think the gallery loading times are probably more important to get sorted 5 mins to open one image on 10Mbps BB Hopefully the upcoming upgrade will sort that at least a little.

what we'd like to do..

is have members contribute their tutorials, articles, tips.. link those all together like i have done in the one link posted above.. then with the new PHP.. sort them into catergories.. instead of having seperate web pages like what was done before in the Resource Center when there was just a handful of members..

also with PHP.. there will be templates we can use.. then making pages from scratch

as it is now.. RR will not allow our coords into the "backroom".. & HTML is not my forte.. which i told them when i signed on as mod.. neither is being a photo tech.. guess i'm more of a hostess & organizer.. & do well in working out indivual problems & upsets.. i can certainly do links, add challenges & banners & do some minor "tinkering"

back then.. commenting could be done in a hr.. there was only 5 pages in the gallery for the whole day & members were posting 3 images a day too, free.. so you can see the growth that has happened over the last 2 yrs

Even I remember the 3 posts a day, TBH I think that the one post a day is better because people spend more time on one image so the quality is better, rather than uploading three images just because you can.

The membership is now huge, there is no way you can comment on all of them it would take days lol

And a fine hostess you are too Cyn :D

TwoPynts ( ) posted Tue, 03 January 2006 at 1:32 PM

Talk about changing times...got this email today. I don't know how true it all is so rather than start a new thread, cyn has given me the perfect opener for something about the way it USED to be. ;] ----- What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the U.S. statistics for the Year 1905: The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower! The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents per hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home. Ninety percent of all U.S. doctors had no college education. Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard." Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death in the U.S. were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacist said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." (Shocking!) Eighteen percent of households in the U.S. had at least one full-time servant or domestic help. There were about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S. I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years. It staggers the mind.

66 years before that photography as we know it to day was pioneered with some if the first negatives being produced. I wonder what Louis-Jacques-MandDaguerre and William Henry Fox Talbot would make of it now! This would be a good link for the resource center; many of us pick up a Digital camera/DSLR without a thought as to how we got to where we are today. These people may be long gone but their dream; lives work and legacy live on.

NO ZACKO I'M NOT TIRED OF LOOKING AT YOUR PIC, when they are so perfect who would ever get tired of looking at them? Doug is the muscle and cyn the brain box :D In all of the good ways of course :D

Looks good cyn, though a new perfect image from Andreas might be nice. ;P Just a 2 comments. Maybe center the poem under the photo (if you are going to keep it) and it still reads "Coordinators: L8RDAZE " -- can you de-pluralize that? :) I wish we didn't have to have Poser or Vue ads on our community page, but I know that you probably have no control over that. I like the look of the Resource page...it would be cool if we could have the same color theme and layout for the Community page. Again, I know that is hard to control. Hey Andreas, pass me some methylated spirits and Marlene can make my coffin. =^P

i feel really stupid, but where the hell's the community page? i know where the resource page is. i'm still really sick...must be why everything is fuzzier than normal. sorry. i like this forum & community a lot. just wanted to say that. i like coming into the forum and not hearing a bunch of fussing, fighting and arguing. that's really nice!! Cindy, you're a helluva hostess for sure!! your contribution here is invaluable! i hope you realize the difference you make. this place is peaceful. if it's one thing i can't stand is a bunch of arguing. i don't mind people talking about their differences of opinions, but i hate fussing and fighting. you're a sweet, sweet person, Cindy, and you have a gift with dealing with interpersonal relationships. you can speak your mind but do so in a way which is not hurtful to others. i'm so glad you're here! doug...joe...you guys do a helluva lot here too. Takes the ENTIRE TEAM pulling their weight and doing what each one does best to make it happen and happen well. You guys are awesome! So thanks for all that you do!!! sorry i don't tell you often enough! Simon, Richard...cool links...thanks! dunno what i would be doing in WWI, but i know i would be helping others in some way. one of my friends who was in a refugee camp in Turkey said when they drank turpentine. Eeeeewwww! He did that about 13 years ago maybe. looks like it didn't kill any brain cells! LOL!)
