Is possible to get Poser 1, Poser 2 or Poser 3? Where? Thanks.

Why would you want them?

They come up for sale on eBay sometimes.

Look on magazine cover discs. 3dworld and computer arts often feature poser 3.

Genny, I would like know how this program has evolved. As well I recognize that I have a certain taste for old things (including the software. Thanks for your answer (and excuses for my bad english).

it evolved from a rudimentary program running on an apple ][ (v.0), to a program for posing a virtual version of an artist's wooden mannequin (v.1), to a program with some rudimentary human-like figures in addition to the mannequin (v.2), to a program (v.3) with some less rudimentary human-like figures and awful plastic wigs (dork and posette), to a version (4) with morphs, magnets, grouping tools, clothing, hair, an expanded number of more human-like models, etc. at this point it changed slighly into ProPak (a precursor of the present-day Poser Artist). version 5, however, was a major evolutionary step, as it brought poser into the realm of real 3D renderers like Max and Carrara, albeit still several years behind the curve. v.6 is still not for modelling, but has a few added features as well as expanded rendering and shading functions, much to the delight of 3D geeks, who had been demanding these features for many years, given that the Poser 4 renderer was hopelessly crude compared to most other 3D rendering software. through this time it was owned by various entities: ghost effects, fractal, metacreations, curious labs, e-frontier et al.

Was it Ghost Effects before Fractal? I started with version 2, I played around with version 1 though, on a Mac, which got me to buy Poser 2. It was only $99, if I recall (only it might have been $50, I remember it as some round number like that) if you owned Fractal Paint.

I'll sell you my HIGHLY collectible diskettes of Poser 1 :D

Well I was actually Joking. While I do have the diskettes, I don't have the original box anymore. Also I don't even know if the diskettes have gone bad. :) I really don't think it's worth buying just to get a historical perspective... You can really do NOTHING with poser 1. However if you are really interested PM me and I'd probably give em to you for like a $10 Marketplace item of my choosing. (For the hassle of mailing it to you :)) (I'd also check the disks out first)

I think I have all of the CD's back to version 2, but I lost the version 1 diskette (there was only one, right? Wow .. can you imagine the days when a program could fit on one floppy? LOL)

3 diskettes (I just checked) Funny when I was digging for it I found a lot of other old apps... MS Office used to come on like a BAJILLION floppys! I think they included both floppys and CD rom with that... That's when you GOT something in a box :D

There days what you get with lots of software is a bigass box the size of a refrigerator crate, with a cd and a ton of cardboard padding in it.

Yeah I remember the last floppy version of MS Office was on something like 20 or 22 floppies. I don't miss those days at all! LOL

Funny thing is we are there again. I made the mistake of getting the CD version of Unreal Tournament 2004... Like 5-6 disks!

I have a copy of Borland C++, on about 30 or 40 floppies.

I have King Quest 1, a special reversed and recompiled version than runs in actual PCs.
The original version (somewhere I must have it) was in a copy protect 5 1/2" floppy for DOS 2.1
You can play the game with amazing four colors.

I think I have all of my programs still around :) I have all of them except Pro Pack. They really have evolved.

Hey Swamp, which versions is the gui change active on, and how does one go BACK to the standard gui? Does it take shutting down and restarting?

Heheh, I still have that black and gold box and book and pink-stickered diskettes. I had to walk miles and miles in blistering heat on New Years Eve (96/97 I think) to pick up my copy from the holding depot after I missed the courier delivery - no way am I going to chuck it away after that, it's a badge of honour! I think most people get the box version of software for the printed manual these days. Cheers

Tastiger: Have you tried using WinXP's emulation setting? Right-click on exe or shortcut/properties/compatibility/tick "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and pick Win95. Could work - probably won't though! Cheers

There's a memory patch for Poser 3 as well as Poser 4 as far as I remember. Allows Poser to run on newer machines. I've never tried anything before Poser 4 myself, that was when I entered this game :o) I've seen the old screenshots though. It's funny :o) I like old proggies as well, old games. I'm still playing RallyX and Pacman quite a lot, especially since a lot of the old Namco games are available in these "plug-a-joystick-into-your-tv" kind of games. Oh and if ANYONE has one of the old Atari Pong games... and wants to sell it... :o):.....

Tried running in Win95 mode - still get the out of memory error - if anyone knows where to find the patch let me know - I can't recall that one, I know there was one for Poser 4. If I did have it it would be stored on one of my old LS disks and i don't have a LS drive anymore... Be nice to play with P3 again :)

I've been meaning to turn the P 90 in My rumpus room into a Time machinne back to the mid 90s. Install Duke Nukem, Doom, Mech warrior 2 Descent and anything else that will fit on 1.5 gigs (2 hard drives) (1 gig was a gigantic hard drive in 1996 :) :D I wish I still had my Amiga 3000 :D

trekkie, atari has re-released its games, including pong, in an atari-like machine called atari 2 IIRC - something like $45 U.S. for those with OS X, pong is available as a free download called iPong.

Flashback 2 The only problem is it dowsn't come with the paddle controllers THOUGH if you can find some originals in a used game shop it is compatible with them.

I like that image posted by SWAMP. It's nice to know that Poser was an "Editor's Choice"... 12 years ago. ;) The ad copy says you create "big heads, long arms, and fat stomachs", but says nothing about creating size EEEE breasts. :-) --John

Brett, firststreetonline.com (site doesn't work for me) had one with two joysticks. I dunno what the original paddles look like. but it's apparently being sold on hundreds of sites for $16 and up.

I am inclined to agree with you on that one - as far as I am aware my copy is still the original installed all those years ago (although it has changed drives a bit!) so mine would (should) be patched. You have to take into account that the specs of today's machines where unheard of back then. Hopefully someone will come along and either confirm or correct our assumptions.

Miss Nancy: The original 1970s Atari 2600 GCS came with 2 sets of controllers. The joysticks (which flashback 2 has)and also a set of analog paddle controllers. These controllers were used for games that needed the precise analog control like Pong, breakout, and Night driver. Basically It's a tiny little rotating knob with a fire button on the side. These games are playable with the digital joystick, but it's a very frustrating experience. Still I think it's TOTALLY AWESOME that the new console is compatible with a 27 year old peripheral. ^_^

Somewhere in the back of my closet I still have a PC with DOS 3 and a 286 CPU! 640 k of memory and a 40 Meg Hard Drive. It's no doubt very rare and valuable now. LOL

As I recall it has a "SUPER VGA" card, which gives it an astounding 256 colors. It also has an original "Sound Blaster"!
