Subject: How would you compare Aiko, Terai Yuki and Miki ?

jerr3d ( ) posted Wed, 04 January 2006 at 11:10 PM · edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 11:10 AM

I have Aiko3 and her morphs, and think she is a very high quality figure. Am thinking about getting Terai Yuki. thanks ^ ^

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 04 January 2006 at 11:35 PM

jerr, are you making toon renders or 'toon realistic' as per Miki and Aiko with realism morph? Animating or still images? ::: og :::

jerr3d ( ) posted Wed, 04 January 2006 at 11:46 PM

Mostly realistic now adays :)

ynsaen ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 12:51 AM

If you are ding mostly realistic, then Miki is more your type. I have TY, and she's wonderful, however, I dont regret getting her at all.

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

Aiko and Terai Yuki are very similar figures, out of the box, but Aiko has a wider range of morphs and more add-on available -- clothes, textures, etc. I haven't checked recently but I think Aiko LE is still free from DAZ. I have Wardrobe Wizard, so the availability of conforming clothes isn't a major issue for me. If I were deciding which to buy first, I'd put Aiko ahead of TY. None of the three are bad figures, and I reckon that Miki is the most realistic Poser figure currently available.

operaguy ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 2:24 AM

Aiko 3.0 base is free at the moment. The morphs are $30.00 For $50.00 you get the morphs, some expressions and poses, a character. But...then you have to purchase Hiro to go with her, He is going to run $60 for base and morphs. Sheesh. Daz is expensive. ::::: Opera :::::

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 2:53 AM

Hiro competes with Koji, and maybe with DAZ's David figure, and is more expensive. Aiko, TY, and Miki all cost about the same for figure and basic morphs, but it doesn't cost anything to try Aiko with a limited set of morphs. (And an extra I'd strongly recommend for Aiko is the Kioki set from Capsces. With that, you might not need Hiro.) Whichever you choose to use, the suppliers of Poser content will be encouraging you to sell your own female relatives into slavery. Why do you think there are so many harem girl sets? :)

Quote: "But...then you have to purchase Hiro to go with her, He is going to run $60 for base and morphs" Not true. Hiro is $30, and has his morphs already build-in into .cr2, no additional morph packs required. I got him for Christmas (I had to do something with Future of 3D Art contest voucher ^^), and he works just fine with all the freebie characters around. I don't do much male renders, but Hiro is very versatile guy (take a peek at my gallery entry - does he look there like Hiro at all ? :) ). Anyway, I'd consider getting TY only if one has also WardrobeWizard. If not, she'll be running almost nekkid all the time (some dynamic dresses in the MP is pretty much all for her). Also, she lacks of such support like morphs and textures, so she has limited use comparing to Aiko with morphpack and all the A3 character sets around. If I were to choose, I'd get Miki instead, for her realism. Also, there's support for her at RDNA (upcoming Samyra project), and some freebies at PoserClub.jp. In short words, if you're for realism, go for Miki. If you're for "toony realism" or just cutiness, stay with Aiko.

Ok, I stand corrected on Hiro then, $30.00 to get going, that is reasonable. I bought Miki, but I frankly have a "realism" problem with her...she is afflicted with the bad shoulders, inward bowing upper arm and bent drinking straw syndrome, like Victoria and Jessie. So, I really can't stand her with skin-tight clothes, bare shoulders or nude period. This is not made up for just because her head can be morphed into realistic looking Asian characters. It is a deal killer. In that sense, she is NOT realistic. What intrigues me now is the possibility of Aiko with her "realilsm" dial set to 1, but then a toon render. I see the same shoulder etc. problems in Aiko and Hiro, but in most renders they do not look as bad. And a toon render is forgiving; the audience suspends disbelief and allows "symbolic representation." ::::: Opera :::::

I think Aiko is the best character on the market right now. I very seldom have to do any postwork repair jobs on her joints. I hate making images with Vicki these days. Of course this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. :-)

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

Yes Miki is very real looking:)

Berserga ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 8:46 AM

I've been thinking about getting Miki, From what I've seen she is capable of some extremely goofy expressions (as is Koji) ^_^ As someone who does mostly cel shaded images I've gotten by fine without hiro, Though I probably will get him when i have need of a younger looking male. If you morph M3 the right way and cel shade him he fits in just fine with Aiko/animedoll. It's not at all uncommon in anime to have more realistic male chara designs right next to more stylized female ones.

operaguy ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 9:23 AM

Yes, I have done okay cel shading and toon rendering Don and EJ, but there are issues with eyebrows and eyelashes, etc. I am in the hunt for a purpose-built toon figure. Berserga, what is your opinion of Aiko with the realistic dial set to 1? ::::: Opera :::::

Berserga ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 10:44 AM · edited Thu, 05 January 2006 at 10:48 AM

I personally have never used her with that dial set to one... If I want to do realism or stylized realism I use one of the other figures V3, EJ, or Jessi. Daz REALLY needs to fix Aiko's teeth though.

Actually 90% of the time now I use the animedoll V3 hybrid I made a long time ago based on Crescent's tutorial. Having V3's wardrobe and animedoll's face morophs is the best of all worlds.

I've also made a simple improvement to animedoll's eyes (for rendered cel shading) Make the geometry highlights on the disks invisible. Then scale and parent a simple sphere prop to fit over the disc and make a Cornea. Make it transparent with a glossy node and you can get fantastic specular highlites on Animedoll's eyes.

Animedoll also has NO TRANSMAPS which means she is ready to use P6's new real time display modes (Smooth shaded rocks)
Oh and while I am giving out cel shading tips. THE VERY best hair I have found for cel shading (Barring what comes with animedoll kit) Is the K2 mixNmatch stuff for the Koshini?Krystal family. I don't own Koshini or Krystal but I bought several of these hairs when they were on sale at RDNA. They are very easy to scale to fit Aiko otr animedoll, and look great cel shaded.

Hi all Here's another couple of shots of Miki, I think Miki is the best looking female figure out there, she is expressionate, totally unique in terms of looks to every other figure and very easy to work with. The support for clothing etc is a little thin (as always) but Wardrobe Wizard helps with that. Best wishes Jody

kobaltkween ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 1:54 PM

i think she also has the most realistic body out there - especially for the ethnicity she represents. and, interestingly, she already has a good amount of free body morphs (due to the wonderful generosity of Jules53757 ). v3, popular as she is, has almost none. actually, i can only think of a couple of breast magnet sets. all the other free custom morphs i can think of are for her head. oh, and operaguy, don't know what to tell you. i think her shoulders are way better than v3, s3, and m3's. aiko's are ok, but don't have as much definition. even in the posts here which don't really show them, i think they look more real in shape (maybe little more smoothing on the first one) than just about any daz character. pair that with the fact that daz has been making the pelvic cradle of their female characters more and more flat and unrealistic and miki's body wins out, in my book. aiko is worst in that respect, and she's my 2nd favorite poser character.

operaguy ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 2:39 PM

yes, i agree Miki is not quite as bad as V or Jessi. I'll take a look at her again soon. It's just that with going for REAL REALISM, pushed with AO and strand hair and such, the verisimilitude to reality keeps increasing, increasing, and these shoulder/arm problems destroy the illusion for me. ::::: Opera :::::

Tucan-Tiki ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 3:09 PM

Koji kinda looks like Jackie Chan lol.

kobaltkween ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 6:43 PM

operaguy - but aiko's shoulders don't destroy the illusion for you? i like miki's shoulders at least as much as aiko's, and every other point on her body beats out aiko for realism, in my eyes. and actually, in the above pics, i think her shoulders do look very real. i was just using her in a pic with exposed shoulders and that was one of the few joints i didn't have to fight very hard. and i fight with aiko about as much. but that's me. i just think it's interesting that people have complained so much, and so far, i've had more real results than the unimesh crew and haven't had any harder time posing. i mean, glamorous jessi is incredible at bending, and apollo maximus seems to be as well (i don't own him, but others' images show absolutely excellent bends if very round joints). but in comparison to the unimesh crew, i haven't found miki's body in any way less real. but that's just to my eyes. everybody sees something different when they look at a picture, at a figure. Tucan-Tiki- really? i guess i have to reference the above- i can't see that at all. but cool!

operaguy ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 7:49 PM

cobalt...i have not worked with Aiko yet. I am going by promo and gallery pictures. I fear you are right and her shoulders will have the same issues as the other unimesh. I am going to give Miki another look this weekend. ::::: Opera :::::

If you don't like Aiko's Head, you can always replace it with V3's or Steph 3's using Kamilche's Shapeshifter Script.

odeathoflife ( ) posted Sun, 08 January 2006 at 9:33 AM

well Yuki and Aiko are anime type figures while Yuki is a tad more realistic IMO, Miki is a representation od a 'real' pseron as is Koji Jessi James and the rest. I use Yuki a lot though as she is one of my favorite characters,

I own all three figures mentioned and enjoy each. I would gladly suggest any or all of them for your runtime. Each has a personality of their own. Miki is the most realistic and has an excellent wardrobe available. Aiko is a cute anime type and fun to pose. Terai Yuki is a cute manga type. I love them all!
