Subject: What hardware affect Poser?

I was wondering what hardware affects Poser 6 most. For instance, I know rendering is CPU rather than GPU intensive, but how much will 1GB vs 2GB of memory affect it? And what determines how smoothly the posing windows works? At the moment on my POS computer, if I have more than 1 V3 in the scene, moving around to pose things is very choppy. What affects this most?

Increasing RAM and processor power will definitely help. I think they have an equal effect when it comes to previews, althougha fast processor would probably give you more immediate benefit than increasing RAM.

In P6 what effects the movement the most is the mode used, Open GL or Skree. That is a factor of your video card. If you have a newer card with 128MB Ram and all of the latest dirvers Open GL should work. If not go to the Skree mode.

The OpenGL stuff only refers to the live feedback, as you work. When it comes to the rendering of your work, your graphics card has no part in the process - it's all down to memory and CPU performance. As to the actual slowing down of the window with more figures... have you considered hiding all the figures you're not working on at a given moment? If I'm working on one particular area of the scene, especially a crowded one, then I hide away everything but any stuff pertinient to the figure/prop I'm working on at the time, which speeds up the response of the computer some. friendlyrogue

Yeah, I've tried that. Never seems to make much difference for me.

If you want to move figures the fastest, use the Box Mode for close approximation then switch back to the Full Tracking Mode to fine tune.

Going to 2Gig RAM made a huge difference for me. Many of my renders tipped just past the 1G mark, resulting in tons of virtual paging. The extra RAM space reduced that dramatically, even on the higher render settings.
