You need an older version of lightwave. I think Lightwave 5 or earlier. Try a file converter like crossroads to change it or try even another modeler like Wings which is free open it up and export again as an obj. Could also be a spline object too.

you can also use a program called Accutrans to convert it from LWO to obj, 3ds, dfx or one of the ones that bryce will take..You can get it from the link i posted. PS: Read the installation guide as well on the download page.Message edited on: 01/07/2006 23:47

opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
Well, I tried & tried, but I couldn't convert these object files to either .obj or .3ds. I followed everyones advice, but whatever files I produced wouldn't import into B5.5. I followed CrazyDawg advice to use Accutrans to convert it. (Nice program)I even saved each layer as a separate object. Nothing.
Anyway, should anyone like to have a nifty model of an asteroid field follow this link and D/L from the bottom of the page.

And if anyone gets it into Bryce I'd love to hear about it.
When I load them they come out blank.
I can convert them to 3ds but Bryce loads them as empty, and Vue says it cannot read them. (either 3ds or lwo format) I can see the asteroids in Accutrans, but any attempt to save them results in an unreadable file.

The LWO in question cannot be imported into Bryce because there are no faces, only vertices (just like the dynamic hair in Poser 5). The tutorial at newtek is to illustrate an application of HyperVoxels which are a type of metaobject (similar to a Metaball in Bryce) You could get a similar effect using Metaballs and Booleans, but Bryce has no scripting capability at this time so each asteroid would have to be done individually. Another possibility is to make an Lscript in Lightwave to generate randomly sized and placed spheres as a single object and then use displacement and bump maps. Also you could use Terrains in various orientations to generate facades of asteroids (less polygon intensive).

I have two .lwo files that will not import into Bryce 5.5. B5.5 simply indicates that an 'unexpected error (invalid format)'.
Is there something else that I'm overlooking... or can do?
No, I do not know what version Lightwave was used.
