O_o My Gosh...youre right Sheila. I never could decide if it was tilted or not. I just took Pascales word for it. I suppose it all depends on where you focus your eye, and that most of the time is individual i think. Thanks for playing around with it.
How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when
isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is
supposed to be fire and brimstone?

I don't think it looks tilted,I never did.I just thought it was the angle of the shot and the slope of the land. But Richard's looks fine to me,too. :^/ For the record,it's a gorgeous image,Andreas. You could probably stand it on it's side and it would still look good. :^)

haha richard! ok, i consider you the scientist of the bunch. Will you please show me the scientific method to determine if an image is tilted or not.
how do we know when to rotate and when not to? i rotated Andreas' image a hair to the right and i still couldn't tell any difference...even after cropping it. sigh.
am i really that blind?
the only way i can tell if my images are straight is to use those cropping lines. is there a better, more precise way???
i really wanna know! my image that i posted the other day "Joy & Sunbeams in the Sky"...i used that method to see if it was tilted and it looked fine to me. but then someone IM me and said it was tilted.
how can i know for sure if it's tilted or an illusion other than using the cropping lines???
thank u whoever can help me out!!! :) no one has EVER mistakenly called me Einstein! LOL!

You're welcome.But I wouldn't say it if it weren't true...MAS or not.It's great.Immediately recognizable as yours.You should feel real food about this one. :^)

Sigh.It wouldn't let me edit.Obviously I don't mean 'food' but 'good'. :^/ And that's a good question Sheila.I'd like to know, too.I also use the cropping lines. But they aren't the solution for all situations.I'm interested in knowing what Richard has to say.

AW! I don't want you to have that 'duh' feeling,Sheila.I hate that. It's the initials of Mutual Admiration Society. It started as a little joke between Kort and Andreas,I believe, and it just kind of grew from there. It's very hard to get into. I'm kidding. It seems all you have to do is say,'can I be in'?That's all I did.LOL. And if Andreas is feeling generous,he'll even issue you a card, lol. PS Kort is the Head MASter.Right Mr,D.? LOL! :^)

Thanks so much for explaining, Marlene! No more DUH!!!! :)oooooh, the club has a Head Master and everything???? LOL! well...i would LOVE to join...so long as there is no iniation! makes me think of that old movie...oh what's the name it...whacks head to try to jump start brain...uh...uh...you know...i think Dan Ackroyd was in it and maybe even John Belushi. they were going to this university...Belushi was dressed up in some toga and looked so hilarious at that toga party...oh hell...my brain needs a jump start! i can't remember. no matter...i'd love to join...long as we can get together, watch movies and eat popcorn sometimes! :) Oh yeah...Andreas, will you PLEASE issue me my very own card??!!! :) oh boy...i'm so hyper these days. sorry folks. :(
Shiela - it was just a joke :D I don't know if it is tilted or not ! Andreas knows I think it is a superb image ;) and I was just bringing a little light relief to MAS :) However I can tell you the easy way to straighten them in PSP. Use the straighten tool ! Click on the straighten tool found on the tool bar [with the perspective & deform tools] and then align the line along a known vertical or horizontal in the pic and PSP will do the rest for you. It will even crop the image to suit too if you tick the box for it to do that.

Consider yourself in,Sheila. :^) LMAO!Jump start your brain????Too funny.Hmmm.I believe you mean Animal House.A very funny movie...and how appropriate to have that toga image...after all this IS the forum, lol. Wish we COULD do movies and popcorn.Man,that would be fun!It would take one REALLY large screen, tho, lol.I'll have to tell the head MASter to organize another 'slumber party' or something. ;^) Andreas, sweetie, when you find the time, would you please make dear Sheila her very own card?

You could use the straighten feature in picasa. I don't use picasa cause it's pc only. iPhoto for mac.Question the question. Answer the question. Question the
answer...
I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP
LMAO at Richard.Duh!That would explain why I saw no difference between yours and Andreas'!I was ready to believe I was wrong, though and gave you the benefit of the doubt.Optical illusions can really mess with your perception.Didn't you post some here once?I think someone did. Good. Then I can stand by my initial feeling that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this fabulous picture. Done deal. :^)

For your reference Shiela I have just had a look at your image above. I can see why someone said it is tilted and also why you say it is straight.
It is because if you straighten the image using the side of the building on the far right then the chimney on the far left is tilted. It has some lens distortion causing this which has bent the outsides of the images outwards. ALL lenses and cameras suffer lens distortion and it doesn't show in most images you just got one where it does. The image is straight - I have not straightened it here at all.
To show you what I mean I have corrected the image as best I can without knowing exactly how much zoom you used on your lens to shoot. Corrections done for Sony F717 in PT lens assuming a focal length of 9.7mm.

My God, youre picky people! I cant for the life of me see any difference between Sheilas original and the straightened one...im sorry. Oh yeah...the frame looks a bit weird. LOL. #:oP Seriously though...thanks Mentor Richard. I didnt even know how to use that straightening tool. Might come in handy. #:O) ....is there such a thing for PS as well?

Yep in PS. Use the measure tool located with: 'eye dropper' and 'sample' tools. Draw the line along a known horizontal or vertical. Click on: Image - Rotate Canvas - Arbitary Thats it, OK it and PS does the rest :)

richard, i knew you were teasing Andreas about something. i thought you were saying it was tilted and i wanted to know how one could determine that in a more precise way other than just visually. sorry i didn't catch your humor better. :) Andreas, thanks so much for that WONDERFUL card!!! It's FANTASTIC!! I should frame it!!! Richard, i have to confess to another DUH...where the hell the's straighten tool in PSP???? kemal and i just looked and couldn't find it. :( and thanks for explaining about that lens distortion. well, that certainly helps me understand! i'm assuming there's nothing one can do about a lens distortion??? What did you do to my frame, Richard??? LOL!! :) Anyway, i hope that i do have that straighten tool in my PSP7. that would help a lot if i do! :) if not, you think using the cropping tool the way i did with Andreas' image is precise enough? Dovid, thanks so much for that link!!! i will check that out!! :) Marlene, Animal House....YEAH yeah!!! that's the one!!! Thanks!!! that was driving me NUTS!!! Slumber party sounds GREAT!!! Andreas, you can bring your Porky's DVD!!!! LOL! :) Marlene...yeah...i agree with you. i ALSO stand by my initial feeling that there was NOT a tilting issue going on with this picture! Yep...like you said...done deal! :)
Welcome to MAS Shiela :D Perhaps PSP7 hasn't got a straighten tool - I was using another version. I don't see anything wrong with straightening images the way you are doing - it works and that is that. Your image above is straight [as I said], I'm sorry I dropped it and bent the frame :D

hey...that looks better, jan-carel!!! well, you're another Einstein of the bunch, and you use a piece of paper!!! haha...that's good! i think i will have to stop relying on my eyeballs and maybe use a piece of paper like you said! if i had done that perhaps i would have noticed. :) it's just frustrating to me when i have difficulty noticing things like that. my hearing is going too!!! sigh :) thank you, Jan-Carel for showing me how to determine this in some way other than visually!! and thanks for showing me how to fix it too!!! :) Pssst: never too late! i'm always late! and nah...you're not a bugger! LOL! :)
Phew, to see my idea landed! It's funny, but I always see those tilting things at first glance. Well, let's say it's a talent or so, and there are those with the talent seeing it at once, and those who can ignore it as an irrelevant detail. I just seem to be too linear to ignore it. :) There's this website with optical illusions, http://www.davidpbrown.co.uk/optical-illusions/after-image.html, where you can see how easy we can be tricked by our own eyes! But uh... on relying on senses, it's the eyeballs that always come first (I've never felt braille images and listening to images with my eyes closed, hmmm, hard thing), though?
The 'checker shadow' one boggled my mind.Even with the proof!

I really lost that image there and got lost as a little boy in it staring at the screen with awe. Hey Sheila, you're not linear but multi-dimensional! While I still live in flatland you're way beyond 3D! Maybe you have the eyes of Neo in the Matrix, seeing the world in a special way! Even with your eyes closed! :)

Andreas, here's your image cropped. i cropped it to try to see if it was tilted or not. LOL!i couldn't help myself! yesterday kemal and i were studying this image, both of us enjoying it so much. i told kemal it looked titled just a bit; he disagreed.
anyway, i took this into PSP and cropped it to see if it was level. Looks to me like it is. kemal thinks it may be tilting just ever-so-slightly. i just can't see it.
i don't have the best eyes.
anyway, this is how i tell if my image is tilted...by using the cropping lines.
i went ahead and cropped this and here ya go Andreas. i think that tree on the right may be giving the illusion that it's tilted. whatcha think?
